By meaningful I mean: full of meaning/helpfulness directed to the topic at hand. Just because a comment is not what the OP wants to hear, doesn’t mean that the he/she would deem it to be not meaningful. Anyway, when people make irrelevant and unnecessary comments (which yes, do often tend to be rude), they are not meaningfully contributing to the situation that the OP is discussing, and thus are better off not posting at all.
