The perils of being mixed...

Well here goes…Im a quarter Iranian, a quarter Pakistani and 1/2 Ugandan who is born and brought up in England…
There are a lot of benefits to being mixed…im not part of a rigid culture and you naturally end up open minded because of diversity of cultures within yourself…i dont really consider myself to have a specific culture…i tend to borrow from a lot of cultures…a lot of cultures along with my own…your nationality and things to do with them arent really issues…
However sometimes you feel like you dont feel part of a specific community which can sometimes be a ncie thing i suppose…i just dont have the culture or the look to fit into any of my cultures…im not paki enough, persian enough or african enough…i am forever an outsider in all my groups…and even when a lot of my culture is influenced predominantly from where im living i am still an outsider…
My Paki, Persian and African mates also have strong cultural bonds based a lot on where they are from and find themselves taking pride in that…iv never celebrated an independence day before…iv never really felt like i belong to a culture which in some ways is cool but in a lot of ways i wish it was simple and i could just slide into a group…
Dunno if this makes any sense or if there are any mixed people who can relate…

Re: The perils of being mixed...

variety is the spice of life.

dude, maybe what you should do is what your firends are doing, attend clutural gathering, take an interest and celebrate an important day within the mixed cultures that you are from, maybe that in itself will help.

Re: The perils of being mixed...

Being mixed is the best thing ever man, are you kidding? Not only are we the most exotic looking people around but being able to speak, understand, and appreciate more than one culture is something that I am really proud of. Simple is boring anyways, be glad with what you got! The only thing I cant stand is not knowing what to put down on forms, but usually end up putting asian :p

Re: The perils of being mixed...

Use it to ur advantage...
lol u dont hear us complaining abt beingd esi..

errr ok nevermind :@:

Re: The perils of being mixed...

Lol its not a complaint as usch...i enjoy being mixed and i enjoy being able to float within all communities...there are a lot of advantages...i never get stereotyped into any group but like iv said its cos i have no specific culture...i dont really mind cos the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages...i like being open minded, not being associated with any specific group and the fact that i get some nice girls as well lol...
Thing is i think things like settling down would be a problem say...i go to a Paki household im not really that Paki...go to a Persian household...im not really Persian and so on...being mixed means you will never be viiewed as part of a certain community...but yeah thats understandable cos i dont look the part and i dont actually have the culture...
