Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah

For whom Allah said

**You will not find people believing in God and the Last Day making friends with those who oppose God and His messenger even if these were their fathers, their sons, their brothers or their clan. God has placed faith in their hearts and strengthened them with a spirit from Him. He will cause them to enter gardens beneath which streams flow that they may dwell therein. God is well pleased with them and they well pleased with Him. They are the party of God. Is not the party of God the successful ones? (58:22)

Re: The official Suhabas (r.a) Fan Club

about abu ubaidah b jarrah[ra] a incident worth remembering , during caliphate of umar[ra] in conquest of syria the muslims recieved a temporary setback and a town they had captured was recaptured by the byzantines. When muslims finally retook it the jizya collected for the time this town as under occupation of byzantines was redistributed to the christians as muslims were unable to defend them.
Such was the sense of duty of the early muslims towards the protected minorities.....

Jazakallah bro ibn sadique I think you have judged my intentions well , however in front people around Ali [as] I would have appeared as a big time munafiq to be honest.

submission to peace and hareem1 I appreciate ur kind comments

but just so that everyone is clear on this I do not follow fiqah-e-jaffariyah
in fiqah I follow or try to atleast] imam abu hanifa, but my views on sahaba /history are like zayydiyah/ mutazillite thats why it appears as if i am a imami shia but some people like ibn sadique] can discern the subtle difference

May Allah (swt) protect you from that brother - you indeed have inquiring and balanced mind and the company of those blessed souls would have kept you straight and narrow. You are good now and would have been the same even then. (sorry to praise you so publically) - according to Hz. Umar (ra) it is like killing some one!! May Allah (swt) keep you steadfast.

May Allah (swt) protect and keep us on the straight path.

I come from a mixed Sunni/Shia family so I feel that Das's beliefs to the Shia/Sunni conflict are quite similar to mine.

Both sides have their viewpoints that none of us will ever change, even by posting links to anti-Shia links like Ibn Sadique has done.

Both sides use each other sources to "prove" the other side wrong, although they never really do, and these discussions are usually fruitless.

The Sahaba controversy will always exist as long as Sunnis continue to form cult personalities for their Sahaba and Shias for their Imams and their select Sahabas.

Coming back to the Khalid controversy, it seems that Khalid probably did a pretty messed up thing by marrying Malik ibn Nuwayra's beautiful wife on the same night he killed him.

To say that Khalid raped Malik's wife is a bit too much, and I don't think anyone can make a clear judgement on that. One can probably say, that Malik's wife probably wasn't too thrilled to be spending the night with the man who killed her husband just that same day.

**Dear Brother Give me a Chance to Add some thing for Explanation of Above Ayya Mubaraka: **

"He (the Prophet) does not speak out of his desire. It is naught but Wahy (revelation) communicated to him.” In verses 3-4.

The Surah declares that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has not gone astray, nor erred, nor does he speak out of his own desire, but what he gives out is only revelation communicated to him. It is impossible to think that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would immediately add the alleged two verse within this Surah itself, thus contradicting the very essence of the Surah. Though there are over 15 versions of the allegation, all the versions agree that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited the whole of Surah An-Najm on this occasion and prostrated himself at the end of it.

**(Oppose God and His Messenger) :Ibe Abbas ***The Messenger of God said bring me a tablet (lawh) and an inkpot (dawat), so that I can write for you a document, after which you will not go astray … Some people said that The Messenger of God was talking deliriously". *

Muhammad became ill in the year 632 and his health took a serious turn on a Thursday. He summoned his companions and announced that he wanted to write a will. It is reported that Muhammad asked for writing materials to write a statement that would prevent the Muslim nation from going astray for ever. The first person to reply was Umar, answering that the is no need for a will, arguing that Muhammad was ill and that Umar had the Qur’an which was sufficient for him. In another report it is stated that the first person replying, Umar by implication, said that Muhammad was delirious and talking non-sense. This reply caused a great commotion resulting in Muhammad rebuking Umar for calling him ill and sending him and his partisians out of the house

Ibe Abbas:
“No doubt, it was a great disaster that Allah’s Apostle was prevented from writing for them that writing because of their differences and noise.”

Usama’s detachment

Two days later, a Saturday, Umar, Abu Bakr, Uthman and others, were sent away with a military detachment heading to Syria, under the command of an 18 year old man named Usama ibn Zaid. Ali and many others from the Banu Hashim where ordered to stay in Medina. Umar protested to this decision, causing Muhammad to forbid them to abandon Zaid’s detachment. They left, but camped outside Medina and returned the next day.

Healtymind, khuda ko manno aur chorr do iss thread ki jaan. This is a harmless thread where no one was criticizing the Ahle Bait and people are appreciating the good points of the companions. Please let them do so because your constant whining isn't about to change anyone's mind.

JazakAllah khair brother for sharing. I would like to add few interesting aspects of the point 1 (bolded) regarding Hazrat Huzaifa Bin Yaman (r.a)

The Prophet (saw) said that only he himself and Hazrat Huzaifa (r.a) had the knowledge of the "Munafiqeen" in the Ummah. No other suhabi was given this knowledge.

Hazrat Umar (r.a) knew this fact due to which he never used to attend the "Janaza" in which Hazrat Huzaifa (r.a) intentionally didn't participate.

Hazrat Huzaifa (ra) said, "Once in the time of Umar (as khalifa) he called me and asked me if there was any "Munafiq" out of the seven governors that Umar had newly appointed. I told him that there was only one out of the seven. Umar (r.a) asked me who was he. I told him that I can't disclose his name. Within one week Umar removed one of the seven governors from his post. The person who was removed was the same person who was in my mind"

Re: The official Suhabas (r.a) Fan Club

^ Something similar to this I have also read ....Hudhaifa[ra] also has many other merits
he served as the military spy of the Prophet[pbuh] during battle of khandaq and penetrated the camp of the infidels

He was sent along with ammar yasir [ra] by umar khattab[ra] to teach the people of kufa religious knowledge .....he died shortly after Ali b abitalib [as] became calpih he had three sons two of which were martyred in battles

Re: The official Suhabas (r.a) Fan Club

3 brothers of banu muttalib are often overshadowed by other "celebrity " sahaba but they are of very high and nearly equal in status as they were all early meccan converts

1- ubaidah b harith [ra] was first martyr in badr

2-Tufail b harith [ra] veteran of badr, uhad died in 32 AH

3-Husayn b Harith [ra] veteran of badr , uhad and siffin died shortly after it

Abu Darda [RA]

http://alislaah2.tripod.com/caliphs/id12.html

Umm-I-Darda, wife of Abu Darda, related to us that [once] she said to her husband, “What is the matter? Why do you not make a request for wealth and position as such-and-such do?” Abu Darda replied, “I have heard the Apostle of God say: “Ahead of you lies a difficult valley which the heavily burdened shall not be able to cross easily’. So, I want to stay light for crossing the valley and do not ask for wealth and position -Baihaqi
Commentary.-Conditions had improved so much during the last phase of the Prophet’s life, and, after him, during the days of the first four Caliphs that goods used to come in from various sources and were distributed to the poor and those in want.** In the same way, many people were appointed to public offices for which they received a suitable remuneration, and, thereby, it became possible for them to live comfortably. But, even at that time, some of the Companions preferred a life of poverty for themselves and Abu Darda was one of them. They believed that safety against the ordeals of the Judgement Day lay in taking as little a share in material comfort as possible and passing, somehow, the days allotted to them on earth.** The Prophet had told them that only those will cross the perilous valleys of the Hereafter safely who are lightly burdened in the world while those who will load themselves to excess with worldly goods and connections shall experience much difficulty

Khabbab b Arat [RA]

In the last phase of his life, Khabbab was blessed with wealth such as he had never before dreamed of. He was, however, well-known for his generosity. It is even said that he placed his dirhams and his diners in a part of his house that was known to the poor and the needy. He did not secure this money in any way and those in need would come and take what they needed without seeking any permission or asking any questions.
In spite of this, he was always afraid of his accountability to God for the way he disposed of this wealth. A group of companions related that they visited Khabbab when he was sick and he said:
“In this place there are eighty thousand dirhams. By God, I have never secured it any way and I have not barred anyone in need from it.”
He wept and they asked why he was weeping.
“I weep,” he said, “because my companions have passed away and they did not obtain any such reward in this world. I have lived on and have acquired this wealth and I fear that this will be the only reward for my deeds.”

THE MERITS OF 'ABDULLAH B.'AMR B. HARAM, THE FATHER OF JABIR (ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH HIM)
*Book 31, Number 6041: *
Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: The dead body of my father was brought and he was covered (with cloth) and it had been mutilated. I made an attempt to lift the cloth, but my people prohibited me to do so. I again made an attempt to lift the cloth, but my people prohibited me. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) lifted it or he commanded it to be lifted. He heard the noise (of a loud) weeping, or the noise of a woman mourner. He inquired who she was. They said: The daughter of 'Amr or the sister of Amr, whereupon he said: Why does she weep? The Angels provide him shade with the help of their Wings until he would be lifted (to his heavenly abode)
*Book 31, Number 6042: *
Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: My father fell as a martyr on the Day of Uhud and I attempted to uncover his face and weep, but they (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) forbade me to do this, whereas Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) did not forbid me and Fatima bint Amr, the sister of my father, was also weeping There- upon Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: You may weep or you may not weep; the Angels provide him shade with the help of their wings until you lift him (to be buried in the grave).
*Book 31, Number 6043: *
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Jabir through another chain of transmitters, but with this difference that there is no mention of the Angels and the weeping of a female mourner.
*Book 31, Number 6044: *
Jabir reported: My father was brought in a state that his ears had been cut off and (his dead body) was placed before Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) , the rest of the hadith is the same.

Re: The official Suhabas (r.a) Fan Club

During the battle of Ahzab, the Makkan generals might have captured Medina with their “hit-and-run” fighting strategy but for the presence in that city of a “foreigner” - Salman the Persian. He worked out strategy of his own, and his counter-strategy foiled the Makkan strategy. He said to the Prophet that if a trench, too deep and too wide for the horses to leap over, were dug on the exposed section of the perimeter of the city, it would immobilize the enemy cavalry.

When the trench was being dug, one of Muhajireen who was watching Salman, claimed him as a Muhajir (Immigrant from Makkah). “Salman is one of us, Muhajireen,” he said. But he was at once challenged by the Muslims of Medina (the Ansar) when they heard this, and one of them said: “No. Salman is one of us, Ansar.”

A lively argument began between the two groups of Muslims - the Muhajireen and the Ansar - each of them claiming that Salman belonged to their group, and not to the other group.
Presently, the Apostle of Allah arrived on the scene, and he too heard the argument of the Muhajireen and the Ansar. He was amused by the claims of the two sides but he soon put an end to their argument by saying: “Salman is neither Muhajir nor Ansar. He is one of us. He is one of the People of the House.”

This is the greatest honor ever bestowed upon anyone by Muhammed Mustafa (S.A.W), the Messenger of Allah. As recipient of revelations from Heaven, and as its interpreter, he declared that Salman was a member of his house - the Family of the Chosen one of Allah. No one else in the entire history of Islam has ever been elevated to such high rank as Salman the Persian.

**Source: **http://www.ezsoftech.com/ISLAMIC/salman.asp

Why did an arguement took place between Ansaar and Muhajirs ? The reason was that each member of both groups wished to include the great character, intelligence and kind mannerism of Hazrat Sulman (r.a) in the account of their own group.

One of the great Sahaba was Hazrat Talha ibn Ubaidullah (razi Allahu taala anhu), he was one of ashra mubashra, the ten companions whom Nabi (alaihi salatu wa salam) gave glad tidings they will go to jannat.

During the battle of Uhud the mushrikeen began to shoot arrows targeted at the body of our beloved Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam). Hazrat Talha (razi Allahu anhu) acted as a human shield, and used his hand to protect the face of Rasoolullah (sallallahu alaihi wa salam). The hand of Hazrat Talha (razi Allahu anhu) got shot and paralyzed because of this. But such was the love and affection which he had for Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam), he was not just willing to sacrifice his hand, but his entire life to make sure not the least bit of harm would come to Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam). The Sahaba were truly an inspiring example for us to follow.

Unfortunately, most Muslims know nothing about the Sahaba. If you ask them about Michael Jackson or other celebrities, or about famous athletes they can tell you a to z about them, but if you ask them about a companion of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) they don't know anything.
