Re: The Obesity Epidemic- Why are we getting fatter?
Becausee..
ready made meals are easy - just stick in the oven
people come back from work tired and hungry, and it’s so much easy to have a ready made meal / order a take away
healthier food such as fresh produce is more expensive
advertising of unhealthy food (e.g. chocolate) as: a treat, a luxury, go on you deserve it etc kind of thing
wider availability of unhealthy food e.g. vending machines in schools
office jobs require sitting on your bum all day
watching TV, being on the laptop etc requires sitting on your bum
huge reliance on the car to get from point A to B
the notion of exercise is associated with going to a gym, which is costly. People don’t realise exercise can be as simple as going up stairs rather than lifts
huge surplus of food in developed countries (how much food goes to waste in the UK is ridiculous)
kids prefer gaming on Wiis, computers etc than playing outdoors
people are scared of letting their kids play outdoors - safety concerns
the rise in processed foods e.g. crisps, cereals etc - often with very high salt content
people don’t have time to make breakfast/lunch on a work day so will often buy something packaged instead
All valid points especially the supermarkets who send 1000’s of tons of out of date food to the waste tips each day when there are a 100000 homeless in the UK alone. Add in all that processed food, lack of exercise and all the cheap alcohol that the non muslims drink and it’s a recipe for obesity .
