Why is it? They see varying levels around them all the time. People who say they are muslim but go out clubbing and drinking, others who don't fast but celebrate Eid and then the opposite end of the scale of not missing any prayers regardless of location. So yes, they want to know what I do and don't do personally.

p.s. I'm also asked how 'Pakistani' I am i.e. do I speak the language, do I wear Pakistani clothing etc etc.

So true, it’s not their fault. We have to change ourselves and not change Islam.
