The Muslim Vote

Rep. Virgil Goode may come out as a racist Al-Crackaa but I believe he is speaking from his heart and saying things that many Americans would not due to fear of being labeled as racists and bigots.

Problem is Islam is the fastest growing religion in United States and more immigration is only going to increase the population and the influence of Islam. Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison is a first lawmaker in Congress and seeing the influence of Islam’s growth, immigration and Malcolm X, I think we can see many more Muslims in Congress. They may not be the Asian and Arab as African-Americans and Caucasian also has vast respect and following of Islam.

Question comes in mind, is Virgil Goode is right or over panicking? Considering that Muslims in the States have not been systematically discriminated like Native Indians and Blacks, it is more likely that they are most educated and influential when it comes to money and words. What will be their party affiliation?

Republicans, before 9/11, long enjoyed the support of Muslims due to their conservative values. Things have changed since than and more Muslims are voting Democrats, are they doing because of discontent with Republicans or because we are diverse with our political views and social beliefs?

How do you see it changing America?

Re: The Muslim Vote

You sound like that traffic cop who would pick a spot at the end of the month and dish out traffic violation tickets just to fulfill his quota. Being a mod it is nice to open new threads but they better be genuine. Good luck moderating.

Re: The Muslim Vote

Seems like the effects of the cake last longer than expected…

Re: The Muslim Vote

dude there are fewer jews in the country than Muslims.. but just imagine what would have happened if this congressman had uttered the same for the dispropotionate representation they have in the government.

strength and respect comes not from numbers, but influence.. and it comes from money and power and spying and blackmailing.. from AIPAC and ADL.. not by having loolee lungRee impotent organizations like CAIR..

Re: The Muslim Vote

It’s a start…And your non-support certainly doesn’t help…

Re: The Muslim Vote

create something like AIPAC and u'll have my support.. i'm not wasting my time and money on idiots like CAIR..

Re: The Muslim Vote

Care to explain why this is 'A PROBLEM' ?

Re: The Muslim Vote

well right now politicians mayw ant to avoid getting the muslom vote because if they are getting muslm votes .. rednecks would come to the conclusion that they are not going to be tough on terrorism...

and if u think I make this up, try reading bbs of yahoo or msnbc etc sometime :D

Re: The Muslim Vote

I don't think rednecks are that smart.

If anything this Goode incident shows that muslims need to become more politically and socially visible in the community. There's too much misunderstandings about Islam. People think we worship some different pagan god rather than the Abrahamic God. They think we worship Mohammed (SAW). They think we beat the crap out of our women for fun.

Re: The Muslim Vote

Not for me but according to a poll counducted by USA today, majority of the Americans see Muslims as a problem.

Goode may not be the smartest guy to touch this issue. He may not have used the right language but, that does not negate the fact that there is a void between Muslims and Americans in the country.

Re: The Muslim Vote

And how much have Muslims contributed to this void by trying to be different?

Re: The Muslim Vote

Man with a Plan]Not for me but according to a poll counducted by USA today, majority of the Americans see Muslims as a problem.

Well, first of all even if 39% figure stands to be true with a margin of 4% error, by no means it’s “Majority”. So, tread sentences carefully, instead of exxagerating the facts. Vast majority of us, that live in the US or travel their very frequently have seldom found this to be true. I would like to know any personal experiences of harrassment based on practicing Islam.

Agreed, that there are scum bags and conditions for Muslims are not perfect, and there have been many innocent Muslims who have been victims of wrongful vilfication by the US Government, but you cannot count this as a “MAJORITY” -

The incident you are referring to is nothing but a Political fiasco. Although, it does more good than harm as it entices Americans to be more inquisite about Islam and Quran.

but, that does not negate the fact that there is a void between Muslims and Americans in the country<<<

I am interested in knowing your personal opinion as to how a void is felt between and average Muslim and an average American - these are your words after all..

Re: The Muslim Vote

I agree,i think that misconception about Islam is immense in USA.Besides right wing sells what is in demand...Thats the simple supply & demand scenario..

Re: The Muslim Vote

How much majority do you need to prove the point....Besides 40% of the population is a healthy amount of people.

Re: The Muslim Vote

^ dude spin the argument if you work and live with the Americans in America else zip up..

Re: The Muslim Vote

^ I am an American Citizen by birth(now in UAE),so no reason to ask me to zip up,besides i have lived there for long to know what's going on.

Re: The Muslim Vote

^well, i am really interested in knowing as to what's going on. I know one or two folks in person that were wrongfully accused by the US government. One of them had to renounce his US residency, even after winning a court battle - nonetheless, as a professor , he garnered support of all the faculty from his university, despite the fact that the US governmennt laid forged charges against him. So, clearly there's a difference.

I was at the US customs a month ago, while driving to Tacoma. After fingerprinting me, these were the exact words of the US Customs and Border Protection Official, "Sir, if it was up to me I would like to have you for dinner at my residence, but, these are the rules laid by our government". Initially, I was taken by surprise as to what he's trying to say, and then I realized.

Clearly, in vast my experience, it's not the average American who is anti-muslim.

Re: The Muslim Vote

Just because people are nice to your face doesn't mean they have any real respect for your religion or way of life or skin color. We Americans are excellent at faking things. :)

See? That smily face was fake.

Re: The Muslim Vote

He is a moron. That one stupid comment will cost him his job in two years. He is a dead man walking.
