The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

Totally Agreed :)

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

dude... chill out... I already said above that Pak was better team and when paks lost in semis all Indians were happy. Dont just blabber here. And India avoiding to play because of 2 Ws is loads of bullcrap. When all this was happening BCCI always wanted to play but was handcuffed by Govt of India. Dont live in fool's paradise and make comment like panwala of Karachi..

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

When Akram sold the final of 1999, I can still feel the pain. A very close friend of mine quit playing cricket and taking any interest in cricket after that.

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

we played the game like a test match lol took took took no dukkis or tikkis only singles. no chokas or chakkas...

On the other hand we are playing with our bacha kucha players all our star players are out of the game. like Afridi Mohamad Asif ...

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

GoldenAsif…you have disappointed me pal.

What do you mean you are not sure if that tournament had official status. That was as official as it gets. As far as it being mentioned in Cricinfo Statistics…I don’t know where you have been looking :
http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1980S/1984-85/OD_TOURNEYS/WCC/

All countries participated in that tournament.
The tournament was a HUGE HUGE deal at the time. I am not sure about your age group…but if you were following cricket at the time, you couldn’t have missed it. Ravi Shastri was awarded an AUDI for being nominated the man of the series. The picture of Indians doing the vistory lap in the AUDI is still inscribed in the minds of many Indians..

This is not a game of one-upmanship I am playing here…but anybody who followed that series would agree with me that losing to India in the finals of the tournament was a huge disppointment for Pakistanis at the time.

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

And by the way this thread is not about India being better team than Pak or vice-versa .....this is about painful moments in Pak Cricket...and I am sure losing to India in the finals of B&H World Series in 1984-85 was one of them (because it was sort of a Mini World Cup). The dejection on the face of Imran Khan & Co at the presentation ceremony was quite telling too.

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

as I said, such painful moments never lasted for too long.. 1986 Sharjah incident put a mark in repsonse for next one decade...

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

That is something which can be discussed in "Painful moments in Indian Cricket" thread - NOT HERE .....AQ jee.

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

Off topic!!! Mods please remove this post.
PS: It would not have been so bad if it was anyone but Miandad; I cant stand that totla bandar.

In one day matches Miandad’s six inspired an improvement in Pakistan’s performance or a decline in India’s…Kamran Abbasi analyses the impact of THAT six in matches played between 1986 and 2003

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

Please Miss, Irish teacher needs to skip school
Mon, 19 Mar 2007 05:36:51 GMT

**Ireland off-spinner Kyle McCallan admits he’ll have to ask his school headmistress to get more time off if his team extend their magical World Cup odyssey.
**
Like most of his teammates, McCallan is a part-timer player who holds down a full-time job - in his case as a PE teacher in Belfast.

With Ireland heading unexpectedly into the second round Super Eights, which last from March 27 to April 21, after their shock three-wicket win over Pakistan, McCallan will need special permission to remain in the Caribbean.

“Personally I’m due to go back on April 1 and will have to ring the headmistress and ask her to give me another few weeks off,” McCallan said.

“But it’s great prestige for the school where I work and for the rest of the employers. It’s a massive thing for Irish cricket so let’s take it further.”

McCallan, who is Trent Johnston’s vice-captain, believes Ireland can continue to cause shockwaves on their World Cup debut with host nation West Indies next in their sights in their final Group D match at Sabina Park here on Friday

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

ireland V Pakistan 2007, the most shameful defeat of the Pakistan cricket team ever.

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

^ right on but i see it differently

I think this is what Allah Talaa wanted to happen. May be he has a better future for us after this defeat. Inshallah we will rise again.

Its not how we lost to Ireland, its how we will rise again.

Re: The most Painful Pakistani Cricket Defeat in World Cup

i totally agree...the 2 Ws were delibrately avoided when they were at their prime...

but yea most painful defeat must be 96 qf...we were one of the strongest teams, and as per manjrekars interview on cricninfo talk, a MUCH stronger team than india at the time...followed by 99 final...and now lets add the defeat against the irish at this world cup to the collection
