but we lost that match in 1996 to our arch-enemy India in their territory after Wasim Akram faked his injury and sat out his match
And india after winning that game gave the largest firework show it ever did for winning a cricket game which included it winning the world cup

Bangalore '96. Our all-star bowling was pulverized, and then our batting collapsed as our hopes were up after giving their bowlers some serious punishment.
The final of '99 was over before midday. It wasn't close or nailbiting so everyone had plenty of time to prepare the eggs and tomatoes.

1987 semi final against Austrailia in front of a home crowd in lahore when we were doing very well

Without doubt it is the '87 semi final against Australia in Lahore. I personally know people who went to Qaddafi stadium to watch the game, fully confident that we will win, and after the defeat they could not even talk for 3 days. Total and utter depression.
The later teams were full of dramabaazi (Akram with his injury just before QF in Bangalore, Malik with his satta baazi, losing to BD on their way to final in 99), that I really never felt confident that the team is giving their 100%. And when they are not giving their 100%, no loss is too painful. Buncha actors....

I have read a lot about the '87 semi final that we lost to Australia who then went on to win the world cup. But the Aussie victory was tainted with some biased umpiring from what I have read. Some run out that they didnt give (dont recall who, I'm sure Ehsan bhai would know) plus the Imran Khan's caught behind decision.
The final of '99 world cup was a major heartbreaker as it was a case so near yet so far. I mean we were almost there, one good match and we would been world champions. The '96 quarter final was an altogather different story. It was agaisnt India, in India under very tense conditions. I dont know if I would personally rank them in any particular order. Every time Pakistan loses it's quite painful.

hmmm about 87 semi final... for some reason was not broadcasted on TV (or was it the load shedding.. can't remember) but I heard the radio commentry...
Pakistan lost by 18 runs and hence the end of the career of a fine bowler Saleem Jaffar who'd given away 18 runs in the 50th over of the first inning (Austrailia) ....
it was emotional and all but not painful for me as india had also lost the semi with england, so a bit of a pain-reliever :D

When pakistan lost, we thoought worldcup was ours because those days Pak was only team which could defeat India consitantly. We always thought England and Aus were easy to beat. Damn... I was so wrong.

The moment I read the title of this thread, the memories of the same match were recalled in my mind, I remember that I and my siblings never watched any match so excitedly as the Pak Vs Ind in 1996 world cup.
