Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

WOAH!!!!

First, I am referring to all women of Pakistani descent - whether you're a fobess or an ABCD, or BBCD (British Born) or CCCD (Canadian Born) (I am clearly making up stuff).

Secondly, REALLY surprised at all the negativity. Yeah we have our characters, but overall, I think Pakistani women have progressed pretty well, and those who haven't, a lot of them can't because of lack of resources...but do you guys really believe that our women are so materialistic, brand-chasing, money-hungry (someone said wallet vacuum), superficial, wasting their education, etc?

I thought the minority wastes their education, but most women end up using it somehow?

I'm not being a troll here, I was sincerely expecting a lot of positive patriotism and celebration of our women here...

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

You must be new here.

(tongue-in-cheek, given the disparity between your post count and mine)

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

The use of the word Mahdern instead of Modern, in the thread title, probably threw people off.
This alternate pronunciation is usually used when you're trying to be funny or condescending or both.
But this post clears things up. Now smarten up people and write something about the real Pakistani women of today.

And sorry to burst your bubble but Pakistani women have a literacy rate of around 40% and the percentage is lower than the percentage of men who have basic literacy. Pakistani women are still being marginalized, some because their patriarchs decide not to send them to school, others because they don't have a school in their town/village to begin with. Pakistanis as a whole have a long journey ahead of them.

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

Sorry PCG, I consider myself Pakistani-Canadian, so I didn't think this thread/question applies to me.
Also, I have never been treated like a native Canadian (by people abroad) because often I am too conservative for them. Neither have I ever been treated like a pure Pakistani girl by the people in Pakistan because to them I am mixed. And they are both right, I am not one or the other; I have a bit of both cultures in me.

Well, I find that a lot of girls in Pakistan (esp. middle class) get a degree just to score good proposals. All they secretly want is to be a nakhrelo wife and be taken hand to hand in their susraal. A lot of families look for these types of girls who are educated (so they can raise the kids well and be able to support the husband financially if need be) but really, they want her to be a full time housewife and not have a career.
In the upper class, the women who are well educated, some are truly career-oriented and driven. But a lot of them are just social butterflies and running charitable organizations as a sort of popularity contest to see who can outdo the other.
My views may be skewed, because I don't actually live in Pakistan. So I apologize if my view offends anyone. I have college-going cousins in Pak who update me on the youth culture there... also my close friends here share stories about their relatives back home...plus what the media shows. Oftentimes it comes up that there is so much competition, jealousy, backbiting, showoff and gossip among young girls there that it keeps them from focusing on more serious matters like Pakistani politics, foreign affairs, etc. Every other girl is a self-proclaimed makeup artist. And once you have worn one dress to college or a party, God forbid if you wear the same one again!

As for *shopoholic's *'mehnat kar hasad na kar' advice, hasad kon kar raha hai yar? Pakistani women are generally considered very pretty and I mentioned this among other qualities like being educated and fashion forward.

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

These are some of the qualities i have come across in MAAHDERN PAKISTANI WOMEN :D

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

Surprised at the posts. You can't categorize women like that but women these days are more educated, independent, goal oriented and refuse to live their lives under non sense cultural rules that even islamically don't make much sense. They like social media just like everyone else in this world, they keep up with the latest trends yet they continue to have a traditional side to them. Why is everyone hating?

Re: The "Mahdern" Pakistani Woman

Even in the most oppressed countries without much resources they create a life for themselves and their children. There is no creation like women afterall.
