Hareem, you know surprisingly, I too have seen families where parents tell their kids that so and so uncle is really bad, don't talk to him, and list details of their wrong doings, kids do learn to dislike people. They learn lying and cheating and backbiting from how they see their parents deal with other people. It's more common in our society that we can even imagine.

There's this 6 year old girl that studies Qur'an with my daughter and one day she was telling my daughter how such and such aunty was a meanie and that she "hates" her because her mommy said that the aunty is "cunning."

I think that is what Sara was probably trying to say.

and if anyone thinks its such a false statement..they’re livign in a dreamworld. There are parents who will teach thier kids that westerners are evil, certain family members are no good, certain ethnic groups are to be avoided etc. i hope its only the minority and not the majority, but fact is they do exist.

And while were on the subject of hatred/animals, few days ago i read in the paper about a couple of kids who stomped on a cat and lit it on fire. As expected, the response was pretty horrified, from even “non-PETA” members asking these people be treated the same.

Also tell them these are haram and totally unhygenic so we can't eat Pigs these gorays eat which is so very wrong.

For the ppl who buy and give and have ha piggy toys. Why buy piggy bank there are different kind of jars, bottles boxes are available for saving money.

Gr8, sometimes you can be astoundingly offensive. Pigs are one of God's creatures, surely loved by God just forbidden to eat. To respect them as a creation of God. The only thing forbidden is to eat them...did I encourage anyone here to eat them? Nope. Your hatred and rants here are far less Islaamic than my acceptance of pigs as a treasured creation of God. Your insult to my husband was uncalled for in the extreme and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Gr8 Heera, I have 2 kids so I can tell you from experience that my older daughter who loves animals, was naturally attracted to all animals including pigs. She went on school trips to farms and always enjoyed looking at all animals. In Islam we are taught to love animals and treat them right. This is not my theory but you can look it up.

Now, she is 6 and knows very well that she cannot eat pork and naturally as she is growing up, her likes are also narrowing down. She is more attracted to horses and dogs now.

If I had started getting hyper when she was younger that hey, astaghfirullah shoo shoo, hate the pig and all, that would be useless reaction. Now if she was going to EAT pepperoni, I would tell her not to as THAT is what we are supposed to do. We cannot instill hatred for animals. Cats and Dogs can't be eaten either or any animal that isn't zabihah slaughtered but we don't teach our kids to shoo shoo from them do way?

There are different perspectives on this issue. Some feel really strong one way or the other. Thanks for sharing your stories and suggestions.

My 4 year old is very curious and asks a lot of questions. I don't know the right answer to most of them so it helps to hear parents that have been there and done that.

One of her favorite book is "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Suess. So last night she asked me that if he (the weird character) tried the ham at the end - he's not muslim right? I thought about it and i said "yes".

Now thinking back on it - that was probably the wrong answer.

A lot of families in Pakistan have dogs but are only limited to staying outdoors. Growing up I always "HEARD" that you cannot have dogs inside the house. I don't know that is a cultural thing or not.

So what the verdict on that one - can we have dogs inside the house?

Islamically, you can have a dog as long as it remains outside of your home or areas where one can or does offer prayer primarily due to najasat issues. Wudhu, namaz, etc.

When you do have a dog, you need to treat it well, feed it, take care of it, etc. All you have to do is be sure you clean yourself well before performing wudhu.

That was your way Niki. Everyone deals and treats differently with different kids. You both daughters can't behave or taught the same way.

I love whole creation of Allah too along with pigs. But my way is why not tell in the begining. As there is no limit to teach anything. Especially Islam.

You are right too but what if that love increased more? Yes kids love and liking change after sometimes. But sometimes there love and liking doesn't change ever. Like 1 of my niece start loving cat when she was so young and still loving that she wants to have a cat since the young age it didn't change.

Nop you are so very wrong. There are many animals which we can't consume their flesh. Like Lion, Tiger, Wolf but we don't hate them neither say un clean or **** eater because they are not. We also don't eat dogs. But we can pet them for security.
