We love animals in our home as well. In fact my husband is very serious about getting a dog when we move to a bigger place.
That would be so much fun!

My Mum is quite anti-animal, she nearly had a heart attack when I brought home a puppy, she kinda tolerated all the previous pets (hamsters, guinea pigs, horse) but like most desis/Muslims in general is especially not keen on dogs.
I’d love a bengal cat or a giant maine coone but don’t think my dog would be able to get on with it…
How amazing is this:

Where the EFF does it say that you can't pet or love a pig, you're not allowed to EAT it, making $hit up about how they're bad animals is galactically stupid.
/\ I have a new favorite phrase now: "galactically stupid":)
My 4 year old daughter loves animals.
Her grandparents (from both sides) can get BARELY get over her love of dogs but when she says stuff like "oh cute little piggie" - it gets their blood boiling. I don't care for it much either.
I try to avoid the Olivia on Nick Jr and read "Green Eggs and JAM".
So this morning I had a talk with her about pigs not being clean or nice animals. But I think I left her more confused that anything.
Please help me to introduce the concepts of good animals and bad animals.
Thanks
I had a Miss Piggy doll when i was around her age and I have never eaten pork, nor was curious to try anything, nor do I desire to have a pig pet. Ironically, someone gave my nephew a piggy bank toy and my mom said "NO PIG" so my bhabhi, instead of arguing, just hides it from my mom..lol. i just dont see what the big deal is, I dont' think kids should be taught ot hate animals, but when alot of parents teach thei rkids to hate other poeople.. respect for animals is far fetched.

Hehehe.......but yeah your right. I dunno if it's an old school thing or what? I got a negative reaction for getting my son a pig shaped piggy bank...and it is so cuteee tooo!!!! I also let him play with it, but don't tell my mom :)
Don't worry about it.
At 4 my daughter was fascinated by all animals and I let her. At 6, she has a clearer understanding of it all.
Thats a nice answer because we don't need to freak out when kids go after pigs or say something about it.When they grow up they come to know about it.

Thank you Mr A!!!
You know, pigs are actually very clean and cute animals and make better house pets than dogs. The sound "oink" is a complex sound to make, one that speech teachers work on incessantly with speech-delayed children. They are universally recognized, theyre cute and heck you dont hafta EAT them to like them.
Re: The love of PIGS
A pig is as Haram as a goat that is not slaughtered properly, or not slaughtered at all (means goat is alive). So if we hate pigs, we should hate non-slaughtered alive goats also.
See, Muslims are taught to hate everything that they cannot eat, period. In other words, if we love something, tht thing should run away from us because in no time we would be frying, barbecuing or baking that thing.
Damn, our love to all the animals is so dangerous for them

Re: The love of PIGS
Pigs in reality may not be that cute. But the cartoonish stuffed pig toys or piggy banks can be adorable. The toy version of almost any animal....even the most dangerous is cute, lol.
I don't think that there is anything wrong with little children thinking pigs are cute. Allah forbade us from eating pigs, but I don't think we have been forbidden from thinking they are cute. I think that's taking it too far. As one poster suggested, most likely the kids will not grow up to be pig farmers or consumers for that matter. Parents should teach their children that pigs are dirty and we are forbidden from eating their meat.
Scolding kids for thinking a creation of God's is cute is a bit too much. Going to extremes can make religion different for kids to follow. Even the Prophet SAWS advised us to avoid going to extremes and stay in the middle ground.
We're not allowed to have dogs as pets because they are seen as impure. But there's nothing wrong with thinking that a dog is cute or showing mercy to a dog. There is a hadith that Allah forgave the sins of a prostitute who gave water to a dog tortured by thirst.
I've even heard Muslims say that if you call someone a "PIG", your tongue will be dirty for 24 hours. I hope the ones who believe that can find authentic references from Islam for such a belief, LOL!
