The same logic could be used on Henry Kissinger. Now this guy never pulled a trigger in his life, but you dont think he shouldn’t be tried for his complicity in crimes against humanity? I think the death toll was about 5 million. He (Kissinger, not Bhutto) has too much blood on his hands.
Regarding Bhutto, i think he was power-hungry, but c’on, we have no right to call him a non-muslim. That knowledge is only with Allah (SWT). My 2 cents.

Bhutto screwed up big time as far as the economy was concerned, but it was that scum bucket moron zia who messed up Pakistan’s social fibre by jumping into the saudi/us circus called jihad. Now we all know its repercussions, yet we do not accept reality and blame bhutto for all ills.
Bhutto may have been partially responsible for the East Pak fiasco, but he did what he knew best. Take advantage of a political situation for his own personal benefit. Real responsibility goes to all those parties siding with Yahya Khan ie Jamaat e Islami, PML (lotas) and other bikao maals. Army/JI/PML/Awami League were the main culprits of 1971, its a shame we still do not recognise the real culprits because of this charade created by the state and its sponsors.

People can say what they want about Zia as a leader,but in terms of deen and personal piety the man was a phenomenol leader. I can't think of a leader of a muslims nation who seemed so sincere. If you read about his life that is one thing that certainly strikes me.

absolutely NO! when army was killing and raping Bengalis he wasnt in power.. he left Ayub Khan long before any Bengali movement started.. and was in jail most of the time.. in all the hate movement of Bengalis against army he was not involved in any way.. the hate movement was manifested in the elections and Mujeeb won on 5 nationalist points .. Bhutto only was involved after the war was lost.. the negotiationas failed for a consensus constitution and framework for transfer of power..
Its the first time I have heard about this East Pakistan rape/massacre connection with Bhutto! where did u read it? this connection is between Army and bengalis..

I wonder how true this account is. There was a woman named 'Farah-Naz' (aged 18 or 19) whose case was pretty famous in the media in those days as well, as she was held for shooting her fiance (near Shakarparian) in a celler close to Bhutto, and she was released later and she mentioned hearing 'screams' from Bhutto's celler (which was referenced in alot of books written on ZA) as if he was being tortured. Considering she was a civilian with no political bias, seems believable.
Certainly an interesting read and a detailed account. Maybe justice was served when Zia blew up in a military aircraft so many years later, but messed up the country in the process.
Also, shouldnt these threads be in Pak-Affairs?

blame for east Pakistan debacle is as follows:
40 % Muslim league leaders who didnt gave Bengalis their rights right after inception of Pakistan
40 % Pakistan army who massacred bengalis in late 60's to suppress them creating hatrad against west Pakistan
10 % Mujeeb who used nationalist aims to cash on those setiments
10 % Indian intervention
All this happened when Bhutto wasnt in the scene.. country was already broken and it was only time factor.. Bhutto could and should not had agreed to 5 points of Mujeeb as they were automatic destruction.. mind of bengalis were made.. army of Pakistan was from west Pakistan.. and they didnt want toi be hanged by mujeeb govt. for attricities..

Well Bhutto didn’t divide the country it was well written since early 50’s(Urdu-Bengali riots)…that if anything is not done sooner then pakistan was a history…& that’s what happened…Ayub’s military regimes was also one of the co-factors for pakistan’s division..
