Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
the best thing was they did nt put in big name actors or make it a big budget film....it would have ruined it

Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
I watched it two days ago and still can’t help thinking about it. It was absolutely gripping when I watched it and has definitely left a lasting impression.
I haven’t read the book but I’ve been told that the movie is not a bad adaptation. Just considering the movie in an absolute sense… the actors performances were superb. Special mention most certainly goes to Mahmidzada who played the young Hassan, and his heart wrenching performance embodied the personality traits of love, loyalty, modesty and humility – he was darn good!
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
I watched it a couple of days ago.
One of the many things I liked about this movie that it was MOSTLY based in pashtu. They could easily have made it in English with a few pashtu words here and there but they did it really well. Movie is a quite good adaptation of this amazing story. However, they did cut a few parts, specially all the melodrama involving sohrab in Pakistan. They had to do it because of length of the movie.
Best thing about the movie was the acting. Hassan, Amir (both kid and young) and above all, baba .. were absolutely brilliant. Khaled Abdallah was quite good with his pashtu.
Loved watching it! And I sure am not disappointed like i was after watching Da vinci code.
To people who understand pashtu: What is that pashtu translation of the phrase 'For you, a thousand times over', that hassan and amir use in movie?
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
Saw it and was pretty content with it.
I absolutely LOVED Hassan. Kid made me cry so many times and he was absolutely adorable!
I'm pleased with the movie for the most part. They kept the dialogues as they were in the book.
But somehow when Hassan said the line, "For you, a thousand times over" I pictured in my mind him saying it slow with a bit of more feeling; but he said it so fast..I know I know he was running after a kite and was in a rush but still. It lacked the emotional touch. Amir did the same thing at the end. Or maybe it sounds better in English?

Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
this was a great movie! really well done i thought, i especially loved the cinematography with the kite flying scenes, i thought it was brilliant
btw khalid hosseini's second book a Thousand Splendid Suns is a must read!! it was an amazing book
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
Khalid the author seems to dislike Pushtons for some reason.
In the Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns the Pushtons are potrayed in a negative manner.
Secondly will someone explain to me why in the movie the Father and Son mainly speak Persian instead of Dari or Pushto??
I didnt get that part.
Also in the movie, they song that was played during the wedding was not a typical Afghan song usually played in weddings.
IMO they wanted to pay a tribute to the singer who was killed for the reason that most of his songs were sung against the govt.
Despite all that, its an awsome book and a very good movie.
