Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
I think the acting towards the end of the movie was a bit corny.
The kite-flying scenes were really good.
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
the book was probably the most beautiful story I have ever read. I wish they wouldn't turn it into film, it's never the same. I'm afraid that the movie will not capture the essence of Hosseini's message or the true sadness and beauty of the book. i mean look at the cover picture itself... makes it seem like some happy-go-lucky movie about two good friends and kites. Besides the story itself he is trying to portray the image of true Afghanistan before it was raped by war. I really doubt American filmmakers will want to capture that. I'm really scared it's going to be nothing like the book and the reason that will be bad is because once the movie comes out, no one bothers to read the book. Which would just be atrocious. No book has ever made me cry like this one did.
also I heard that the filmmakers lied to the parents of the child actors, saying it was a documentary about Afghanistan. they didn't tell the parents about the rape scene or anything else, taking advantage of their ignorance. which I find disgusting, if that is indeed true.
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
^ From what I read the mother was okay with it and the father did not know.
The movie portrayed the book very well (I think). The film director was really good (the same guy that directed Finding Neverland) and you can definately see a great contrast between Afghanistan before and after invasion in the movie. It's really good, trust me! =)
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
^ phati, kasmay I am gonna give you a beating agar tumhara review ghalat sabit hua
. Lets hope I dont come running after you once i have seen that movie.
The only movie(s) that has somewhat captured the true essence/imagination of a novel is/are LOTR. HP comes second. Baaki I cannot come up with many.
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
LOL okay well I don't know how everyone else will like it but I was worried they would ruin the book, but I was pleasantly surprised. =) The movie was a lot like the book. They cut out a few parts because otherwise the movie would be like 4 hours long, but it was still really good.
I feel like a cheerleader. :AID: go watch it! go go go! :AID:
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
I know the Taliban lovers on this forum hate the book since it portrays the Hazaras in a rather positive light.
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
ok phati, I would love to ask which scenes were not specifically shown in the movie but one about how dad n the kid were getting out of afghanistan to go to peshwar i believe, did they show a scene where a russian army dude was askin a woman in the van to come with him n how the dad got in between n fought for her - I really liked that one, was it in the movie? :AID:
Re: The Kite Runner (movie)
^ Yea, that part was in the movie.
note: spoilers
They omitted the part where Amir spends the night at someone's house when he goes back to Afghanistan, where he leaves money under the pillow. They also took out the part where Sohrab cuts himself in the bathtub and Amir takes him to the hospital (that part in the book really made me cry!).They sort of changed the part when Amir and Assef fight at the end. Instead of Assef telling his guards not to open the door no matter what happens, they made it as Assef attacked Amir and then Sohrab took out the slingshot and shot Assef in the eye with it and Amir and Sohrab ran off while the guards chased after them (but they never got caught).
