The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

While rapists, gang bangers, gun slingers, and hooligans roam the streets of Manchester, London, New York, Los Angelas, Paris, Tokyo, Athens, Sydney, Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta, Dhaka, Riyad, Cairo, Johannesburg, etc etc etc… we have three cricket players who are in jail for a NO BALL bowled during a TEST MATCH which didn’t even remotely affect the outcome of the game?? Are you joking me? This is a disgrace.

While FIFA, Italian soccer, European Soccer, NFL, NBA, FIBA Basketball, are loaded with match fixes and have books, articles, journals and loads of evidence showing evidence of MATCH FIXING (not even spot fixing), we have three cricketers from Pakistan who are going to jail for bowling a NO BALL which didn’t even remotely affect the outcome of the game??

Even some terrorist young offenders get away without jail time (Please read on TORONTO 18 incident which occured in Toronto, Canada in which many young offenders involved got away without jail time)

For Gods sake people like O.J Simpson, John Wayne Casey, Casey Anothony, are roaming the streets (or at least some of them were until they repeat offended different crimes like 50 different times). And yet we got 3 Pakistani cricketers going to JAIL for a couple of no balls in a test match???!

Heck even cricket is FILLED with cheaters, and it just so happens that the only three that have to go to jail are PAKISTANI’s?

I do not know which is more pathetic. The fact that it is almost unbelievable to see a cricket player going to jail over a couple of no balls in a test match which did not even affect the outcome of the game, or the fact that there are 1000 x more serious match fixing (not even spot fixing, match fixing!) acts going on all around the world. Not one person has gone to jail for anything. Or is is the fact that the three who are getting time happen to be Pakistani (of course, of any country in the world)

Even in the U.K, rapists go to jail for what 5-6 years and even less if they show good conduct in jail.

Read this article, its alarming:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne…o-rapists.html

instead of spending 5 years away from their profession, losing their employment, losing their reputation, losing their friends, and losing their life, would Mohammad Amir been better off going to jail for rape or armed robbery?

Prison sentences of over 12 months are meant to protect the public from the criminal (as per UK prison sentence outlines).

Does the public really need to be protected from three guys who already lost their careers? Do we not think that so many years from the game will already ensure they do not spot fix again?

Why do we have to send them to jail?

Oh, I know why. punishing Pakistani’s sets a good example in a caucasian world.

Oh, let me add. Punishing PAKISTANI cricket players in jail for spot-fixing a couple no balls in a test match will DEFINITELY send a message to billions of dollars exchanged in Euro soccer, the hundreds of thousands of dollars illegally gambled on NFL in the united states, and the millions of bookies in India to find a different way to make an income in IPL (quite possible the World’s new #1 most cheated game).

Somewhere out there in Miami, Florida, Casey Anothony is laughing at a cricket article in ‘Florida Today’ while NFL referees are at a table planning the MoneyLine for the first win for the Miami Dolphins.

Shame on the United “Kingdom”.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

Agree.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

I agree with your complaint but it is disgraceful that these cricketers were involved in this incident.

These idiots are more like small-time crooks out to make some money but failed to realize how this would embarrass Pakistanis.
They were stupid not to realize that there is a lot of anti-Pakistan prejudice and that they would be used to make an example of in a heartbeat even though this fixing business is rampant all over the world.

Still I do want to see them go to jail. It should have been done by PCB for disgracing Pakistan.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

They deserved to be locked up. I think the Judge struck the right balance. I think people need to see things the way they are rather than being apologists for corrupt and criminal elements, that have no regard for Pakistan and are just out to make money by hook or crook. These players let their fans down, let the country down and also let their sport down. If they were offered enough money they were prepared to lose the match.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

I'm happy with the outcome. Hopefully it will deter spot fixing in the future and send a strong signal that this is a disgusting act and wont be tolerated. I was actually hoping a life time ban for Asif, the complete waste man that he is as he has been in numerous incidents now.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

i do agree, BUT, i think what happened is right. I knew whoever disagreed with the sentencing would play the race card. typcial. only blacks and asians can play this card. its pathetic really. what they did was wrong, they got caught, and they shall pay the price, simple as that. yes it most likely happens all over the world, but had this happened in pakistan, they wouldnt have been affected. pakistanis and indians have been doing this for years, its not as if its the first time a pakistani has commited this crime and is facing jail, its something thats been going on for years since imran khan etc. so if the west hate pakistanis so much, why hasnt wasim akram, imran khan, etc all gone to jail. theres more to it then just a NO BALL, the evidence gfoes back for ages, the PCB were warned, and warned again to get their players in check, it was ignored. time and time again, the board has ignored all the signs, because they think they can get away with it.
and although i do think fixing is in all games, sometimes its just too much, esp when such hard evidence is in your face, and yes when it is pakistanis, it makes my blood boil more than if it wasnt......we are already a corrupt nation, this is just the icing on that big cake.....

and please dont compare it to rapists/murderers etc, each crime has its own punishment,........someone being cheated out of lots of money should expect to get many years in prison, doesnt make the crime of murder less important, but they are two diffrennt areas, dont mix them. if they didnt go to prison, and were simply banned from game, or fined, well these people have millions of pounds, these bans, etc dont make an iota of difference to these people. so jail sentence is good.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

Asif is most definalty a waste of space, his incidents make me sick, cheating, drugs, veena malik, his face has idiot written all over it…i feel sorry for aamir, i dont know why. :halo:

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

Pathetic to play the race card.

Stop defending criminals by saying that OTHER criminals get away with it sometimes. That's twisted logic.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

:k:

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

I am sure your stance would have been entirelly different if the players belonged to other side of the border. :@:
Please Keep your bhashans for your fellow citizens.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

to some extend it might not be fair, but i really hate them for bringing a bad name to my country!!!
and cuz of their karnaamey their families would suffer now! sad!!!

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

Judge's statement
*
It is the insidious effect of your actions on professional cricket and the followers of it which make the offences so serious. The image and integrity of what was once a game, but is now a business is damaged in the eyes of all, including the many youngsters who regarded three of you as heroes and would have given their eye teeth to play at the levels and with the skill that you had. You procured the bowling of 3 no balls for money, to the detriment of your national cricket team, with the object of enabling others to cheat at gambling. Now, whenever people look back on a surprising event in a game or a surprising result or whenever in the future there are surprising events or results, followers of the game who have paid good money to watch it live or to watch it on TV, in the shape of licence money or TV subscriptions, will be led to wonder whether there has been a fix and whether what they have been watching is a genuine contest between bat and ball. What ought to be honest sporting competition may not be such at all

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

Nope, your assumptions about me simply based on my home nation are INCORRECT.

Do you have anything constructive to add to my earlier post?

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

I am sorry but these 3 cricketers were no teen kiddies who were unaware that they were doing corruption, their families would get in trouble if caught, their careers would go down the drain, they will bring a massive disrepute image to the country - THEY KNEW IT ALL & STILL WENT FOR IT! Yes, there are others who are criminals of the same offense too & hopefully they will be caught as well. This will be a set example for the upcoming players as well.

When some one themselves have lost morals then there is no point protecting them now. For them money was much more important than country's respect, they sold it and now theirs is getting sold likewise!

Also, please stop saying its just ONE or THREE no balls, the fact of the matter is not whether or not its a no ball or not, whether it effected the game's result or not .. the fact of the matter is that they cheated & were dishonest. They, and who ever performs such actions, are all corrupt people who deserve the seed they themselves sow.

To add to it, the PCB & Govt & the Indian/Australian bookies behind all this should be equally handled & jailed. This for me would be bias if they are left out wandering with their big money full backpacks. Corruption starts with even supporting a corrupt!

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

I am still waiting for ONE example of any sportsman being sent to jail for corruption. ONE example.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

When the words flow that easily - only blacks (and asians) play the race card, there is a problem. Such language to describe blacks is typically used by the right wing, that pretends everyone operates on a level playing field. There definitely is discrimination when it comes to placks re: sentencing. So IMO, no need to drag blacks into this.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

Not true. One thing about the Shraabee guy is he is consistent - not that he needs me to defend him.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

There is always the first time. Not only did they cheat they led the nation up the wrong path by playing the innocent card on TV everywhere. Pakistan's name had been tainted for years with spot and match fixing and only something as drastic as this was necessary to inject some reality into the minds of these cheats. Khus kum jahan pak.

Anyone who cheats and brings shame on the nation deserves it.

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

I see your point, Ehsan Bhai. I guess the wounds are deep for Pakistani cricket fans. Hope things will get better in terms of integrity of the sport :)

Re: The jail sentences for Salman, Asif and Amir are atrocious and absurd?

They are not in jail for bowling NO BALLS. They are in jail for taking money for it and ensuring winnings for the betting syndicates.

Yes, such actions do not 'affect the outcome of the game' but they do effect outcomes of a lot of bets made during this match around the world, consequently cheating thousands of people.
