Wow! Nice pics…
I have been to Yemen. Muscat is a nice metropolitan place. I visited a small city called Ibri near the border with UAE. I have heard the other tip of Yemen is completely different from an Arab land, and is suppposedly a hill station with lots of views. I forgot the name of the place, but it was the second biggest city in Yemen.
The folks in Yemen… well I don’t know much about them, but the guards outside the palaces of Qaboos were not friendly!

Anyway, the thing I found interesting about Yemen, was that there was no railway and (at that time) only two airports, so the most common means of transport was roads. And hence, they had some of the most liberal speed limits at that time. The roads, themselves, were nice, although for the most part it goes through desert and really not much population or views.
I really enjoyed their typical dish, which resembles khada-kabab of Balochistan. Where they marinate a whole lamb and put it under sand in the desert where it automatically cooks in 2-3 days. Also, Yemeni folks have an interesting social ettiquette where the host never eats with the guests, and excuses himself at meal time. They think that if the host stays with the guests, than the guests won’t eat as heartily as otherwise. Usually one big dish of rice with soft, tasty meat in the center, and everyone eats from it. No separate plates.
