The haunted House

It was in the news recently that one of the really sought after properties in my city , fell in value intensely as news broke that there was a family that lived there a few years ago , that got killed in mysterious circumstances and that they are still haunting the house !

Made me think, if you were looking for a family home would you get put off with the history of the house? specially if you think its a perfect home and your kids will genuinely enjoy living there ?

Re: The haunted House

it will give me a creepy feeling but i will not be deterred because i do not believe in ghosts or evil spirits.

if my family doesn't want to move in because they are scared [minus the belief that ghosts exist] i will respect that and look for some other house.

the Arab owner of a California mansion had the same problem because 16 people had committed suicide in that house on the eve of the new millennium. they were a religious cult and they thought the new millennium will bring an end to the world.

Re: The haunted House

I might find it creepy and be deterred if the events in question took place inside the house itself or if something happened specifically due to it. I do believe in the existence of haunted houses but I guess where my differ from the common notion of it is that I don't believe that they're haunted by the undead. Rather it's just a house where the jinns manifest more frequently and overtly.

Re: The haunted House

ok what if the house isnt haunted , but it has a history of someone dying ( suicide , murder etc ) there .. would it be a deterring factor for people?

Re: The haunted House

of course not. life is in Allah's hands. there is an appointed time for everyone's death. i'm a firm believer in that so it won't deter me.

If I am looking for a home to buy, I would spread a rumor like that about it so the price comes down. Hee haw.

Re: The haunted House

In the US, you can legally find out who lived in that home previously, if a murder was committed there, and if someone died there.

Re: The haunted House

We have a couple of rumoured jinn haunted houses nearby and most of us believe it was a ploy to remove heir challenges and to make the property harder to sell.

I wouldn't care because Allah nighebaan and what not.

A relative wanted to buy a house but it had two graves in it. Now that is not the kind of house I would want because so much garden space is being lost.

Not necessarily. It's very state specifics. For instance, Texas property code does not require disclosure of any death on the premises, regardless of it's natural, a murder or suicide her is not directly related or caused by the condition of the home (i.e the foundation split open and killed someone or a faulty wire exploded.

A buyer would have no way of knowing of a death or any violence or illness that happened in the house unless it was splashed all over the news or a neighbor or someone told them.

The only way you can look up the previous owners would be by public property tax records but that doesn't tell you much about the actual people, only their names and how long they owned the property.

Re: The haunted House

I think the state I am in, we can. Neighbor died in his house, and a lawyer told us it would be on record for anyone to see if they were wanting to avoid such houses.

Re: The haunted House

@**StrangeOne **So there were two people buried on the premises? That would be a bit eerie.

Re: The haunted House

Yup, but the house was really old, pre partition when our crowded suburb used to be far away from the main city. But yeah, who wants a grave in their garden much less two. And owners were adamant the graves shouldn’t be removed so it was a deal killer.

Re: The haunted House

Ahh, I see. Many older houses here in Britain have that as well. The house we recently moved to has a small graveyard at the edge of the property. Interestingly, the house was owned by the same family since the 1890s, so most of the graves belong to the family. When first exploring the land around the house, I didn’t realise it was a graveyard. I thought it was a garden. :smack:

Re: The haunted House

If something like that happened in the house itself, then maybe I'd be deterred. Probably it would count as a con when weighing the pros and cons.

Re: The haunted House

Yeah, you can’t always tell.. There are half a dozen gravestones in front of my home as well but no-one ever notices.. Kids go down to play on the grass etc.

Re: The haunted House

one night i was working in my lab late night. there was a cemetery across the street. at around 1 am, i saw scores of lights moving forward and up and down in a 'wave' motion. coincidentally, it was also shab-e-bara.at. people visit graveyards in the middle of that particular night back home but not in Canada. i don't believe in ghosts but i admit i got scared at that time. i turned off all the lights and started watching those lights. it was quite dark. i kept a close watch on those moving lights until 2 am. i couldn't take it anymore and i left the building quickly.

next day, when i mentioned this to my Prof [my supervisor], she started laughing and told me that those lights were the headlights worn by the worm pickers who moved in a line across the cemetery...bending down, picking worms, getting up, moving a step or two forward and repeating the routine...giving an illusion of waves moving.

lol...that was funny but scary! :D

Re: The haunted House

It's interesting that you bring this up. The house we recently moved into was owned by the same family since the 1890's and has a small graveyard on the estate and most of the graves are of that family. The previous owners have come to visit us a couple of times and have told us quite a bit about the house and grounds. They've mentioned that there have been a couple of deaths in the home (a young woman and two children who died during the influenza pandemic of 1919).

Re: The haunted House

i don't believe in ghosts but do believe in Jinns and that some houses are occupied by them. if its such a house, we would not go for it.
but if there's a house with history of deaths taking place then it would not be a deterring factor for us.

the previous house where we lived in, there was a grave in the garden of the house next to ours. my room window would open to that side, it never gave me any eerie feeling. :)

Re: The haunted House

Depends how hawt the witches are

Re: The haunted House

and it was in the news that a couple moved to a new property and when they were doing their garden up they found human bone in the dig up, called the police and investigations led to a case of a teen disappearance incident that happened years ago !

if such a case happened to me, i dont think i will be able to live in the house anymore  let alone make it a family home
