Re: The halal-ity of your food.
A Halal logo at a restaurant or grocery item is always enough for me. Some of my more molvi cousins would start interviewing the guy at the pizza place..'where'd you get the chicken', 'how did you prepare the chicken', etc. As long as a Muslim tells you it's halal, it's halal for you.
If you are shopping are at a grocery store which isn't owned by Muslims, then that halal symbol does no good for you because for the meat to be halal it has to be slaughtered by a Muslim and has to stay under Muslim supervision at all times. If the meat was slaughtered by a Muslims but then a non-muslims delivers it or sells it, that meat isn't halal anymore because it lacked Muslim supervision.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
In my experience, none of the Muslim families that came to our place cared of Halal/Non-Halal Chicken. As long as it's not pork, eat it! :D

really, where does it say that?
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
So did u ever find all in one???
I did, but I was not too sure about the piousness of the bakra in question.

wtf? That practically makes everything haraam, since most stuff is sold by non-Muslims anyway. Sorry, but as a Muslim, if something is certified Halal then the onus is not on me to go out and prove it haraam, rather the responsibility in case the meat is haram would lie with the person who certified it. It doesn't matter if the food is handled by a muslim or a non-muslim, that's what I believe. Islam isn't about making things harder than they already are.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
I think it is rude to blatantly ask this question when somebody has invited you into their home and serving you food. If you're not sure, avoid the meat and do some research before next time. If they insist, eat it, and avoid being rude.
I think some people make such an issue out of this and end up behaving in very ill-mannered ways, which is completely contradictory to Islamic teachings. And usually these people seem like they are just creating a fuss for the sake of creating a fuss. It reflects poorly on them.

This sounds like Kosher rules, not Halal ones.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
As a host, I always make sure the meat is zabiha in our home (actually even when serving non-Muslims). Once or twice I've gotten meat from the organic store that was non-zabiha. Out of the house, I will eat non-zabiha meat, but when dining with friends who only eat zabiha, we always make sure that if we're eating out there are veggie/fish options.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
Then where u buy/get meat from? ![]()

Well i asked the ppl that introd them to us since they have known them the longest.... And they were quite surprised too.... Ofcourse now our social circle knows cuz everyone asked each otjer.... We love this couple so its stupid to let it go sour over this issue.... Like i said... They are never asked to make meat chicken dishes for potlucks....and if we go over, we just dont eat protien dishes..thankfully they dont insist. But if they did, Id rather say no thank u than eat it... To me this is a big deal....i think the only ppl that would choose to eat it rather than say no are those that themselves arent so big on halal stuff in their own homes.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
Whats this halal vs zabiha thing?!
We only have halal here... Zabiha kia hotha hai.i know living in canada this trm was thrown around a lot...
Is zabiha super halal? U know...where the bakra in question is muslim to begin with?
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
Zibah means jab neck ki ko churi se cut kar ke Zibah kya jata hai,and Halal means Zibah karte waqt ka Allah ka nam leke animal ko halal kya jata hai,
So just like this kosher meat is Zibah but nOt halal
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
So then its halal we should be on the look out for and not necessarily zabiha.. Cuz obviously god has said eat flesh of that that had gods name taken when being slaughtered and kosher orzabiha is only when there is nothing else available halal...
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
^ Yes
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
Meat has to be halal. I usually don't ask people what they eat, but most chicken here is AH halal, so I either eat that or veggie.
Outside home I stay away from meat. Just to be safe.

As far as I know halal = any food/animal that is permissible to eat. (i.e., chicken, beef, etc)
while zabiha = refers to the way its slaughtered.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
I thought what makes protein halal is the manner i which its slaughtered with the utterance of allah's name. (this being the most imp)...otherwise its considered haram.
Otherwise what makes it haram? We cam easily then go to mcdonalds and have a chicken burger no?
Growing up in arabia and then living in dk now... There is no such rhing as zabiha... Its either halal (salughtered under islamic guidelines, in allah's name ) or haram (cut by non muslim).
Doesnt matrer if its chi ken or meat ...
Easy.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
actually halal and haram is referred to what acceptable to eat and what is not e.g pork vs chicken/beef
zabiha/non zabiha refers to how it was slaughtered.
Re: The halal-ity of your food.
Lusi got it right.
opposite of zabeeha is not haram
opposite of halal is haram
PS: we do have the nagging makrooh thing there as well :)
