Re: The GS Health and Fitness Dictionary!!!

:omg: awesome!!!

But in layman terms, does it mean a “heart attack?”

Re: The GS Health and Fitness Dictionary!!!

^Yes. :)

Myocardial Infarction means heart attack in lay terms. It means the blood flow to heart muscles is interrupted to damage the muscles, from many reasons, most commonly by blockage of coronary arteries by cholesterol and blood clot.

Will give someone else the chance to pose a term. :)

Re: The GS Health and Fitness Dictionary!!!

Anemia

Re: The GS Health and Fitness Dictionary!!!

I think I know what it is, here is my go at it.

Anemia is the conditions when the body does not receive enough oxygen via the blood cells either due to low RBC or hemoglobin or hemoglobin's capability to bind with oxygen. There are various different causes of this. Being a nutritionist I know that there is iron, folate and b12 deficiency anemia.

Re: The GS Health and Fitness Dictionary!!!

:hinna:

Re: The GS Health and Fitness Dictionary!!!

anemia in simplest terms is a decrease in normal red blood cells in the blood. that can be due to many many many reasons. they can be nutritional causes, like canadiandesigirl said, or due to genetic abnormalities like sickle cell anemia, or even due to bleeding out too much or believe it or not, having too much liquid in the blood, which can cause dilutional anemia. the end result is a decrease in usable oxygen for the body.

A disease in which the bodies own immune system targets and mounts a response against self cells and tissue. This is opposed to normal immunity where foreign material is recognised and damaged/removed.
