Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
I've almost finished it :)...what about you Mysti?
I like the style of writing, but not sure of the characters.IMO,they are not very likeable,ie.I don't really care what happens to them.
When will we be discussing..........?
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
im half way through the book,, and i have to say that i like it! ^agree, with liking the style and i usually dont like these political type of books but this one is really good :)
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
i have to go get mine from the library still :(
i'll get it today, and get started right away! how much time do i have left? :p
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
Im liking the writing - havent been able to read much as I havent been feeling too well but I didnt expect the book to be this well-versed :)
Its a great book for the younger generation who didnt grow up during those times -
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
oooooo i've finished reading it and it was hilarious! got a couple of questions but i'll wait for everybody to finish.
ive read it already and judging from everyones comments,im the only one that didnt like it lol. anyway will also wait for everyone to finish so we can discuss it :)
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
brummie it was funny? acha - hmmm im waiting to get to that part lol!
sazzie wow your done! we'll discuss what you didnt like soon - lets have a deadline to next week :)
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
so i'm up to chapter 9 now. i'm not finding it funny yet either. maybe it's coming up soon?
it's a different book than i normally read, but it's an interesting read. i wonder if the historical content is correct and accurate?
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
ok, I love to read! Am I too late? I want to join aswell. but I think since you guys started your Mango book, I will wait for the next one.
I have read Holy Woman already, but I can be in on the discussion if that is the next book you choose.
I have some suggestions - oh yah, just a comment, I love Pakistani authors (I was born and raised in Canada) so I love to read about everything!
1) blasphemy - Tehmind Durrani
2) A Thousand Splendid Suns - the same guy who wrote Kite Runner...soemthing Hosseni
3) Pakistani Bride
If someone can send me the PDF of the Umera Ahmed book, that would be great!!! Is it in English? I have watched her drama MZZB - loved it!
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
im pretty sure the historical content is accurate - not 100% though but I was talking to a friend of mine whose parents were activists for PPP back in the day and she said that the events were all true -
saimab33 - you can definitely join in :) if u want you can start up on this book or wait for the next one :)
I've finished it too...but will wait for everyone else :)
The ending was good...but if the historical facts are true, then there is TMI.Have to say though it was a bit of a slog.
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
this GS bookclub is a great idea!! Are the Umera Ahmed novels written in English as well????

I'm not finding it funny either. And I'm waiting to be done so I can "fact-check" on google - it's weird how they impute certain actions and motivations on real people - I'm visualizing them actually behaving as they were described in the book.
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
Thanks BR! Some of them are translated or in the process -
Sehrysh - yeah exactly. Im trying to picture Zia-ul-Haq in my head with everythin going on and Ali and Obaid :) its interesting though! I havent fact-checked either but its really cool the way its written!
Re: THE GS BOOKCLUB!!!
it was very different to the usual stuff that i read and in some places it was hard going BUT the caricature of General Zia was hilarious but my favourite was begum zia!!!
brummie it was funny? acha - hmmm im waiting to get to that part lol!

oh no, i meant ive read this book before, mm around the start of this year i think.
its good to see gs book club has taken off by the way and that there are fellow book fans here :)
it was very different to the usual stuff that i read and in some places it was hard going BUT the caricature of General Zia was hilarious but my favourite was begum zia!!!
i tell you begum zia was my favourite character....she had real backbone.as for viualising the Gen.,well i'd rather not, esp. not after his consultation with the physian
the style of writing is witty...and i agree it's not the usual type of book i normally read, but i'm glad i did...
