What do you think? By when could this be a reality. A union of three states:
Pakistan
Afghanistan
Iran
That would give us geographical depth as well as a strength. What should be done to promote greater cohesion between the three states. I am ready for bombardment.

Keep dreaming!! Pakistan should learn to be self dependant and should look to increas its own strength instead of looking to foreign powers to protect its future.
pick up the map and see the little pakistan. if we do not unite, then we would always have conspiracies by a third country from the left and right.
Pakistan and Afghanistan were one under the Moghul rule, so why not now and I think we were also very very close when the Taliban regime was in power.
Actually, annexing Afghanistan would not affect Pakistan's ethnic and cultural balance too much - it would lead to around 10 million extra Pakhtuns joining Pakistan, and about 15 million smaller ethnic groups such as Uzbeks, Turkmen, Hazaras, etc
The culture of Pakistan would not be affected at all - even with 25 million extra citizens, the dominant ethno-cultural identity (by numbers) would continue to be Punjabi by a very large margin.
Thanks to Bollywood :D most urban Afghans have at least a rudimentary grasp of Hindi, which can be easily converted into a strong grasp of urdu for the current generation of students and accelerate the absorbtion of urban Afghanistan into the Pakistani mainstream. The next generation of students would develop with mastery of Urdu. There would need to be some geopolitical restructuring - the Afghan Pakhtun areas and the FATA could be merged into a single administrative unit, but with a Regional Assembly drawn from tribal leaders for provincial government as opposed to the current setup. The rest of Afghanistan could be drawn into states within the Pakistani Federation on ethnic lines, much as Pakistan's states are drawn on ethnic lines.
The trick, though, will be managing to install a puppet government in Kabul that is strong enough to defeat its foes on the battlefield and yet pliable enough to take orders from Pakistan, right down to willfully being annexed. (A militarily forced unification of Pakistan and Afghanistan being out of the question). With that annexation complete, Pakistan would have a clear pipeline to start pumping out Central Asian oil, as well as develop and exploit Afghanistan's war-damaged natural gas reserves.

And that's the whole problem and why Afghanistan would never accept union with pakistan! We have it bad enough here with punjab rule, why make more people suffer? serious question.
i don't think the exercise is worth the while.. if at all we should make some sort of a 100-year peace with our neighbor to the east and cut down on the military spending and strenghten trade with a healthy balance...
let the regions of Afghanistan and northern Pakistan who pine for the Talebanic kinds of government have their way .. they will stone each other to extinction pretty soon and we can make wilderness safaris in all that land.. :D
So, what makes you think sindh would like to remian part of any federation with punjab? Just for old time's sake? I don't think so.

I observe that Punjab has already transformed. Despite the fact that even talks about talks between Pakistan and India over disputed Kashmir have not begun yet. You can modify your personality, but not your essence.
I am sure the Taliban sympathizers are in an extreme minority in Afghanistan and in Pakistan's western provinces. The people of Balochistan and the NWFP yearn for education, health care and job facilities like all other people of this world, up to now every government has failed to provide them these facilities though.

Screw the idea of an islamic state. I rather have a vibrant pakistan and than a pathetic islamic union.

Screw the idea of Pakistan than. What Punjabis are doing to Pashtuns, we better have our own Islamic Pashtun country and you have your own vibrant Hindu Punjab!
Wrap Quran and put it in a safe. Since you have denied it is a book of law to be implemeted, and just a story book than have all the vibrance you want!
Right, and the Pushtun will have a vibrant country by protecting those who kill muslim women and children. I wonder where the honor and respect for religion is there?
