The great Bill Moyer - this week's interview

Bill Moyers first guest was Glenn Greenwald, who is an advocate for policy reform to have peace as an outcome. He provided stats on domestic terrorism, which were telling. A must see interview. His concern re militarilization of the police was evident.

Second half guests spoke about how the media is playing false equivalency. Treating lies of far Right same as positions of the left.

May you live long, Mr. Moyer. And continue to bring us high quality interviews.

You respect this guy moyer haan?

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Some of the guests in the recent past

The Tyson guy - spoke about dark matter. He has a new show coming up on Discovery
Another program was on minimum wage. Why politicians (including the so called liberal Democrats) have been fighting raiding the minimum wage tooth and nail. That $11/h is needed for a person to rise barely above poverty level working full time. That if adjusted fir inflation one shoukd be making 21/ h.
another on the shameful “drill baby drill” mentality.
Another on how in Baltimore and otter inner cities the poor are increasingly marginalized. Thrown into prison system. With no hope of making it when they get out.
How the Medicare receiving well yo do senior citizens want to close the door behind them. And deny the poor Medicaid.

If you watch just one program watch the great Bill Moyer. As an ex priest, he I the perfect example of a kind, religious, fair and ethical human being.

May you live a long life, Mr. Moyer. For we are addicted.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

This week’s guests were from Mother Jones mag and Prorepublica(?). Discussed dark money in politics. Thru formation of Suoerpacs. Where no way to identify and track the money source.

AMWAY CEO enabled uniion busting in Michigan with freedom to work law being passed. Koch brothers funnelling millions of dollars to get their agenda. State Farm Johnson and Johnson target etal bring money source. Politicians dpenfing their time raiding money rather then fling job.

This thread is waiting fir a guest whom we had invited here to interact. Where art thou, special guest?

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Today’s guest was a person who once supported charter schools and vouchers. Now she sees the disfunction.

The original purpose of charter schools was to be a safety net for public school dropouts and those needing additional help. Now it is a cash sucking mechanism for "not for profit " orgs that run these schools. Hedge funds are in on the act too it has become a money making machine.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Rather than address the core problems affecting public schools - unemployment incarceration etc - they are closing down public schools and sucking tax pater money into charter schools. Which screen students so the very poor don’t get in. And are left to survive in defunded public schools. Billionaires who themselves haven’t hone to public schools now destroying them.

Probabky some are Christian Capitalists.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Charter schools have created a wreck in my old community where I grew up. The very high school I went to that offered good public education is a cesspit of human existence because a charter school opened up nearby and every wealty/middle class family that actually focuses on raising their kids appropriately are sending their kids there. The kids from dysfunctional families are left behind in the public school system.

Charter schools remind me of the schools in Pakistan. Every day they want you to pay up for something.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Apparently there is something called the K2 or K12. They advertises in millions of dollars for charter schools. And against public school. So much so the liberal new Ny mayor or is it gov is making nice with charter schools.

Money money money. That’s what it is about.

Since charter schools are now a profit making enterprise they just drive out public schools. Teachers who heroically tryvto do good in oublic schools are made scapegoats. Or worse villains.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Today’s show was heartbreaking and outstanding. Guest Suri Jayaraman. She is an advocate for restaurant workers fighting the pooeerful Restaurant lobby. In many States tgese workers receive 2.13$ base pay. No sick days. No health care. Live off tips. Sane tired old argument from restaurant industry. Have political support.
Bill Moyer ended the show with

If a law is unjust
defiance is our duty.

A truly great example of a religious man who understands religion, that Bill Moyer.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Today s guest Harvey J Kaye. The fight for the 4 freedoms book.

FDR - freedom of religion speech
Freedom from want need.

FDR was an advocate for little guy. He invited derision from the rich. They clip the eagle to feather their nest he would say. I welcome their hatred.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

As a young man he was not sensitive. But polio changed him.

He was of opinion if Tory Republican s take over , could lead to fascism as counter.

He pro.oted 2nd bill of rights with focus on economy. Ensured worker got rights.

Reagan in July 3 1987 visited Jefferson memorial sponsored by us chamber of commerce.

“Need to remember 4 freedoms. Religion speech and freedom of enterprise.” He said. Thus expunge g want and need.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

When conservative s talk in private they love govt. Cause they know how to milk it. But in public they rail against it.

Great show. Do watch it. Your heart and mind will be cleansed.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Today’s show was about Net Neutrality. About the plan to have a fast lane for rich customers. And a slower one for the aam aadmi. How the Comcasts of this world can control what u watch by directing you where they want to. Talked abt Obama campaigning for net neutrality. Then appointing an ex Comcast employee as FCC chair. Who appointed two comcast employees opposed to net neutrality. And also appointed ajit pal from verizon. Who appointed as advisor a Verizon employee opposed to net neutrality.

What abt the FCC chair? Contribution or raised 500M $ for Obama campaign.

Those opposed to this two speed lane can go to billmoyers.com to get instructions on how to provide input.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Why do we keep doing that?

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Clyde Ross tried buying a home WHEN FHA subsidized housing. Except in neighborhoods where blacks lived in great numbers. Lasted officially till 1960s. But lasted much beyond. Leads to this huge wealth gap 20 to 1.

We talk abt achieve ment gap between black and white children. But we don’t talk abt injury gap. That black child comes in with injuries that the white kid doesn’t

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Cover the sin of national plunder of blacks with sin of lying abt the plunder.

Message of broken social contracts.

We don’t talk abt race in depth.

Everything we have is built from past sins.

For an alcoholic takes courage to admit it. We have to do this at the national level. Applies to every nation. Recognize and accept past sins.

Getting states to confront past sins is very difficult.

Re: The great Bill Moyer - this week’s interview

Frankly no country has done that. But we r pioneers. So got to do it.

Reparations - means bring about social justice. Eg Health care - in the deep south where we had slavery - those places DO NOT HAVE MEDICARE EXPANSION. WHY? Race of course.

Being color blind is not solution. Being CONSCIOUS of color is solution.
