The Game of Thrones

Re: The Game of Thrones

^yeah that's right. And then turns out that it was all pre-planned.

Re: The Game of Thrones

^ :hmmm: I don’t remember that. Time to reread these books, me thinks!

Re: The Game of Thrones

There was a conversation between Tyrion and Tywin…when Tywin revealed everything to his son and also how his maester stopped Robb’s wife from getting pregnant.

Re: The Game of Thrones

Was all this in Book #4? I found that one hard to get through, I think I lost focus. May reread from Book 3 on after this season is finished.

When is the 6th book coming out?

Re: The Game of Thrones

Book 3. I’m finding book 4 a bit boring and slow too…may be because a lot of focus on Dorne and new characters. :frowning:

Re: The Game of Thrones

Aaahhhh skipping all the posts with mentions of the book

Please people if you are gonna discuss the book, put SPOILER ALERT first so for those of us who just watch the show won't know what's to come.

Re: The Game of Thrones

^How do you guys use the spoilers sign/symbol?

Re: The Game of Thrones

^that's exactly my dilemma, I have no idea how to put spoilers :S

Re: The Game of Thrones

I actually liked the dorne characters especially all the princesses. One thing I liked about GRRM is that he gives all these heroic, plot changing roles to women instead of just making them princesses or fairies who come to you for help during troubled times

Re: The Game of Thrones

Also when Talisa says she's tywin's spy she's not bluffing :D

Re: The Game of Thrones

Yep. There’s Catlyn and Arya Stark, Cerci, Danny, Asha.

Seems like there are a lot of women in Dorne…a lot of hot women. :hehe:

Re: The Game of Thrones

SPOILERS

There is debate between fans about how much of a hand Tywin had in this. There is discussion about Jeyne Westerling being alive, pointing to different descriptions of her between Catelyn and Jaime, the direwolf flag at Riverrun simply disappearing instead of being lowered for Jaime, and a lack of a crown (Jeyne’s) being offered to Jaime as surrender. Some fans seem to think that the Blackfish, Jeyne, and her sister planned for a switcheroo and Jeyne’s mother was forced to go along with the plan (what else is she going to do?).

I think Tywin took advantage of Robb marrying Jeyne. The conversation where Tywin tells Tyrion that “some wars are won with the pen” is him referencing his letters to the Freys after the fact. Robb has already married Jeyne, Frey is pissed, and Tywin takes advantage of that. Tywin’s maestor never stops Jeyne from becoming pregnant. This is something Jeyne’s mother supposedly did, at least that’s what she tells Jaime after the surrender of Riverrun. Some fans think, again, that this is her just going along with the plan that the Blackfish, Jeyne, and Jeyne’s sister have cooked up.

While Tywin is powerful, he can’t really make Robb succumb to Jeyne. If anything, he would base Robb’s actions on Ned’s (supposed actions :hehe:) and think that Robb would fulfill his duty to the arranged marriage, regardless of whether Jeyne got pregnant or not.

Re: The Game of Thrones

Probably not for a year or two. GRRM takes his damn time.

Books 1-3 were kind of pre-planned. GRRM meant to have a 5 year gap betwen books 3 and 4, but realized that it wasn’t working, so book 4 became book 6, and he wrote AFFC and ADWD to cover the gap. I think the drop in quality is because he had to go back and fill in the blanks, but they’re still entertaining. It was fun reading Cersei’s chapters, she really is messed up. I also like Jaime’s chapters in AFFC. He starts to become a more competent strategist instead of simply a knight.

Re: The Game of Thrones

Spoilers

Yeah, I thought Tywin had a hand in the Red Wedding, not the actual seduction/marriage.

Re: The Game of Thrones

For now, just write "Spoiler Alert" and turn the rest of the font to "light yellow". Makes it very difficult to read unless you highlight the text. I'll check if the spoiler tag works.

Thanks Sahar

Re: The Game of Thrones

I hope and wish that HBO's threat can persuade him to finish his books earlier :(

Re: The Game of Thrones

Ending of this last episode actually made me teary eyed .... :(

Re: The Game of Thrones

Best pair of all: Arya and Tywin, I can watch the whole season just to see their moments again
