I just started waching it (on episode 4) and I think this show is absolutely brilliant. I just want to know whether I should read the books first before I continue watching? I hate watching adapted shows or movies without having read the books (they usually leave out a lot of details).
I've watched the first couple episodes and I am now reading the first book. Surprised by how close the tv adaptation is to the book itself. Most of the lines are the same.
I just re-watched the whole season 1 again and man oh man the adaptation had been amazing
I have also just re-read the Clash of Kings so that I can pay more attention to it while watching
So any one who has read the books which scenes you can't wait to watch for me it's the red wedding and the blackwater war

I've read all the 5 books and I feel I can appreciate the TV show more because of this. The books are very very long, but GRRM's writing is just fabulous. His characters are sooo multifaceted. I find myself hating someone in a book and having a crush on the very same guy a few chapters down! On the flip side, there is no element of suspense while watching the tv show because you know where the story is headed.

Hmm is the red wedding going to be shown in this season? Doesn't it occur in ASOS, not ACOK?

That's why I like it when they change something in the series or add something which was not in the book because it makes it so interesting. I heard the GRRM is himself writing the episode of Blackwater fight so that would be great.
Personally I am always interested in watching movies after reading books so that I can analyze how close the adaptation had been and by far a big thumbs up to GOT for being true to the books

I was reading one of the discussion boards where they mentioned that they are going to show some ASOS in the last episode as a cliff hanger. Remember they did the same thing in the last season also where they had shown Arya's escape and start of journey while it was still a part of ACOK.
