Re: The forbidden fruit(s)
Pigeon-holing internet strangers helps maintain neat stereotypes about the world, no doubt. I am now a "modern liberal western educated Muslim." Takes a libertine to know one, eh.
And, come now, if you're going to make a statement, stand by it. No need to pretend you were casually trolling about gays to get a rise out of the flaming liberals that populate this flaming liberal forum.
I dunno, maybe your 'random' mention of homosexuals on a thread about sexy bananas is "why I picked up on it."
Stereotypes work best on the internet. Its not you are going to have an interesting intellectual discussion on GS. The gay stuff is definitely trolling and its great to get arise out of most people. That is why you are harping on about it a few days later.

Yes, critical introspection is what happens to bad people. Your frontal lobe is your enemy, always remember that. Nothing a concussion can't fix.

Physical abuse. I like. And that was my Borat impression.

I wasn't aware this was a thread pitting Islamic values against Western values. (I see what you mean by "personal emotional issues" now). If you had a pulse on the sentiments of the underdog, you'd know the common man isn't looking to be instructed on what it means to be Muslim. The common man wants food on the table, a secure future for his family, and for the Americans and Soldiers of Allah to get the hell off his turf.
Wow. You see the irony of your statement? You have no more an understanding of the common man than you accuse me of having. I expected so much more.

Still waiting for you to name the posters mocking Islam. Finish what you started. Perhaps you're projecting something you're experiencing offline? Muslims in the West this, Muslims in the West that. Why even converse in English? Which happens to be the official vernacular of Hell.

Shirk is one thing I will conduct. Regardless of the internet goading. The definition is given. A few posters get it, yet you don't. Rose tinted glasses I am assuming.
1. I can't write Arabic on the internet for the life of me and 2. Not everybody speaks french. And 3. I like to hide my absolute horrendous grasp of the french grammar system by speaking in English.

What on earth do the issues that face Pakistan today have to do with the identity crises of Westernized Muslim yuppies? Right, we don't lack indigenous Islamic scholarship, ijtihad isn't dead, we're not still reeling from Zia's draconian legacy, our airwaves aren't full of Zaid Hamids and Aamir Liaquats spewing reactionary hate speech, we're not calling rape victims adulterers or assassinating Pakistani Christian ministers in the name of God. It's the "western educated Muslim" that's actually b@st@rdizing the religion beyond recognition. The "liberals" are the ones braying the loudest, wielding the most clout, the ones hijacking the Islamic narrative. And what I've just described is a figment of my "existential angst" and a 'Western conspiracy to make Pakistan/Islam look bad.'
To your first question. The majority of the urban upper class in Pakistan are Westernized Muslim Yuppies as you say. I would know they are my social group back home. They are educated abroad. Come from middle to upper class families and inter-mix religion and western norms as they desire. While most college books will teach you government is conducted by the people, that obviously is not the case in Pakistan. This Westernized Muslim yuppie base is the future of our "democratic parties" and form the core second generation of most MPAs and politicans. They also form the basis for PTI support which everybody has described as Jamaat-i-Islami lite. So obviously you can see it has a huge impact on our country and its future. The lack of this basic knowledge indicates you are a second generation Pakistani who lives abroad.

We suddenly have scruples, do we. You mean like hurling the 'K' invective at minorities on this forum? Perhaps it slipped your mind that non-Muslims exist on our side of the border, unless of course you don't consider them Pakistani. Or classifying an entire thread of GS members as the collective enemy of a religion you fearlessly guard alone. Captain Cheerio, defender of the Momins, to the rescue.
How did you know I love Cheerios? Also the General Mills stuff. The Nestle stuff is just horrible. The K invective is not an insult. It is a statement of fact. The Muslim world is divided up into those realms. Why would you even consider it an insult is the question. Would the phrase pagan be considered an insult? Or the phrase "animistic religion"? Nope. Rather they are used rather actively in academia. So why does the phrase Kafir affect you so?

Whatever discourse is, this ain't it. One minute you're advocating independent reasoning and name-dropping liberal thinkers like Orwell, and in the next breath you've turned into Farhat Hashmi with a handlebar moustache. Well what do you know, you might be an endearing bundle of contradictions like the rest of us, o' lamb of God.
ps. What are you smoking, out with it. 'Cos I want in on that stash.

You know the beauty of that above paragraph? Nope? I shall inform you. You automatically stereotyped me as a fundo, someone who must defend the faith against the evils of the west and whatever else the terrorists say. Ironic since you commented previously that it was wrong for me to do so. Then you call me a bundle of contradictions.
The beauty is that I never classified myself or identified myself as anything. I am who I am. I have no problems with it and I make sure I don't contradict what i personally believe with my upbringing or my faith. Is it easy? Nope. But I get'r done. 20 points if you can name the comedian.
Sheesha. Chelim. Hooka. Normally smoke Al Fakhar tobacco. Personally love Mint and lemon mixed together. I would highly recommend that for a smoke. If you want some of the harsher stuff speak to GIDSA.
