I have two bottles of milk in my fridge. One is nearly empty, about half a glass left. But recently expired. One is recently bought, and just opened.
Question is, what would happen if I pour the expired milk into the new bottle? Will it cause the new milk to go bad? Or will it not make a difference, since the new bottle is almost full, and has presumably quite a lot of preservatives that would make it sustain half a glass more of nearly non-preserved milk?
i would've thought that neither would go bad, but the overall expiry date of the new milk would be a little less than the expiry date of the second bottle.
Expiry dates usually have a safety factor included in them, usually 10 - 15%. If you have stored milk properly under right temperature, CHANCES are that it will still be OK. But are willing to take your chance.
drink that half glass if the stakes of mixing the milk are too high.
On the other hand, what do you prefer? walk miles to fetch milk in case your experiment fails or making coupla rounds to the washroom, that is if you decide to consume it.
I am sure your tummy will be able to withstand the soon-to-expire milk, then the experiment with the new milk. So choose your pick. :p
so turns out all your feedback was for nought. i went to do the experiment today but the expiry date of the old milk was a little further in the past compared to when I opened the thread, and you could clearly see different layers in the milk, u know when the water seperates from the milk.
figured no amount of preservatives from the new milk can fix that.
