The end of BASANT (merged)

Aoa…

Well, Bassant has been started. It is an old festival of Lahore. A lot of people say that its not a pakistani festival nor muslims festival. But there are many promotors also.

There are a lot of positive & negitive aspects of this festival.

From positive side this festival helps to bring visitors to Lahore from pakistan & outside pakistan. That is a well known benifit to our country & speciall Lahore reigon.

Secondly it is a fun festival. It helps people forget their worries for some time & celebrate a time with happiness, outing… like that

As far as my point of view I think this is not an Islamic festival, however it is a regional festival of punjab, specially Lahore. May be a lot of Hindus are also doing that. But it dont has any connection with religon.

If we look at its disadvantages, O A lot. But these are not coming from past, it is the young generation who has invented a lot of bad things, just for their fun, they did not think that such inventions cause harm, but a rude harm to a lot of people.

Invention of Metal thread cause Wapda a big loss of electric transformers, supply lines…etc

It also cause loss to home & business electricity users, loss of electric devices @ home & less productivity @ business.

The most dangerous aspect of this festival, sharp / metal thread when droped on road caused a lot of dethes, the people who ride on bikes on road & some time their kids. Human life is the most important we can not piror any fun on that.

It also causes death when the metal thread become in contact with electric pole & a human being.

Another sad reality, when we talk about fun. It goes very much advance, dance with girls, Drinks, Full volume music…etc

Now Govt has allowed pople to fly kites for 2 days. In case some harm will caused by this, It will be banned for life time otherwise they will allow it. Let’s see what happens this year.

What Do you think about Bassant…

[li]Should it be…[/li][li]It should not be[/li][*]Partially allowed…[/ul]???

Re: Wht d u Think abt Bassant

It was fun when to celebrate basant when i was in Karachi but here in Canada its snow all over plus nothing like that can be permitted so its very dull and boring i make myself happy by watching my old videos.
Basant should be allowed but there should be an specific space where people should go to fly kites and burst bombs and fire crackers and all - as far as i know it happenes like that in karachi - people go to clubs and all to fly kites and celebrate it - there might be a few people in doraG and laalo khet like places where they must be flying kites and all but i havent seen anything so can't say - when i went to lahore i saw kites everywhere some threads were comming between the cars driving on the roads as well even though where i live in lahore is a good posh place one kite scratched me as well but luckily my friend had a scissor with her...comming to drinking and dancing well that has become a fashion regardless of basant or not; parties and all are happening every night so you cant blame basant season for that so yea.. nothing more to say.

Re: Wht d u Think abt Bassant

Thanks for your comments brother.

But Bassant is becoming responsible for a lot of deaths....

It is not hard to control but very hard to control the people who create troubles in bassant as the name of fun.....

I wonder who would be responsible for the death of poor citizens by ‘dooor’ in these 2 days. Already the casualties have gone up to 10.
I think basant should be promoted in some other way, do we really need kites to celebrate spring ? I remember I was visiting hospital to attend to a relative of mine and this man came running through the emergency with his 10 year old daughter, with her throat slashed by the ‘dooor’, his clothes were all drenched in blood. The poor kid was going to her granny on a bike with her dad. She died on the operation table owing to the blood loss. I say kite flying should be banned. Policy has been pretty strict in Lahore this year, I didn’t see any kites before these 2 days, even on the basant night, there were hardly any kites. This trend should continue.
I say, basasnt should be about going out in open parks, having picnics, BBQ and stuff like that which may not harm anyone else. One person’s fun can cost another his life :frowning:

Re: Wht d u Think abt Bassant

I want to shove all those doors and patang up their arses who are playing with lives of innocet children. Pigs are better than them.

Re: The end of BASANT

I heard from sources that this year it wasnt celeberated with the same fervor as it normally is, mainly because of the strict enforcement of the ban, which was actually temporarily taken off? Anyone in lahore wanna comment on that? Saby etc?

Re: The end of BASANT

sad..

why lift the ban..what soft image
festivity at the cost of our lives?

Geo news team were interviewing people and the views were:
oh its a great festival, it should be extended, i flew in from the US espacially for this, me from the UK, its a healthy activity..

i so wished that the reporter asks them about their views on the deaths caused by this healthy activity?

we so need to wake up :(

Re: The end of BASANT

Pakistan is already a dull place with nothing to attract people from other countries - we who have lived there or live there know where to go and hang around but other people dont have a choice and such festivals are the only way they can entertain themselves (this is actually for the lower class people as well who cant go many places)
But yes it should be conducted with some kind of rules and all so that innocent people dont lose their lives just because someone else wants to enjoy so wildly - but arent their so many concerts and all where girls get raped literally in the crowd or their clothes are torn, so does that mean that pakistanis dont deserve to be let loose since this is what they do take lives and show indecency? doesnt this problem needs to be looked as a whole and not only highlight basant
Its really sad that people lose their lives, they were showing on geo news that people actually like to fire with guns and all and i was like what the hell? its not shab-e-barat when people light fire crackers and all ... people should be told to fly kites in one area or something and not on their roof tops - khair i dont know man i am in favor of festivals but only when people dont get hurt! banning is not the solution though since people dont get much entertainment anyway...

Re: The end of BASANT

This is so sad. :(

So what exactly have they banned in Pakistan? Year-round kite-flying or just during Basant? And what about that certain type of string?

Re: The end of BASANT

:-\ idiotic. until lahories learn how to fly kites without killing children it has to be banned.

Re: The end of BASANT

I don't think its Basant's fault. We can have kids dying during Macy Day's Parade. There has to be certain rules and regulations where everyone is aware that chemical strings are dangerous and know of their surroundings when catching a kite. Moreover, kids under 18 should definatly have adult supervision during any festival.

Re: The end of BASANT

Innalilah e wainna aliha rajiyoun--

And WE celeberated this just few days after that samjhota incident.

Re: The end of BASANT

bao jee I still have that audio news prepared by you, and read by me few years back when Jamali was the Prime Minister ;-)

Re: Wht d u Think abt Bassant

12 people lost their lives! That's horrible! With such things happening who can support basant! I do not mind people enjoying their lives - dancing, music, drink etc! But human lives loss! Not tolerable!

Re: The end of BASANT

Horrible! Are people callous? Crazy?

Pervaiz Musharraf bears its responsibility! His governement violated Supreme Court's oders in this case.

Re: The end of BASANT

Inna lilliah wa inna alehey rajeon. May Allah have mercy on the deceased. And their relatives ameen. And give hidayat to those who play with the lives of innocent people, by doing areal firing.

I hope that day will come soon when Our Govt will impose complete ban on Evil celebrations Like Basant and Independence day when dozens of innocent people get killed.

May Allah give courage and hidayat to our nation who waste billions of ruppes on these two ocasion just for merrymaking and ignore the grief of those families who have lost their loved ones in these celebrations.
