The Education Gap

I really dont know much about your socialization circle but I have stayed for years in CA (Orange County), NC (Raleigh, Charlotte), VA (Richmond) and DC and I have met quite educated Desi guys. From lawyers to Drs, from Software Engineers to IT Directors and from research fellows to PHDs.

Its about time that you change your circle even location. May be you are looking at wrong places? (hint: mostly educated and career oriented guys are not party freaks :) )

Top places to look for Educated Desi guys are

  • Orange County (Tustin, Tustin Ranch, Irvine, Anaheim and around)
  • Bay Area (San Fransiscon Oakland, San Jose)
  • RTP (Research Triangle Park - Raleigh/Cary)
  • DC
  • Charlotte
  • Manhattan (and suburbs)
  • Detroit

and many more

Re: The Education Gap

Raleigh. Seriously?

I'm not a partier. I sit on GS as oppose to partying, probably much like yourself uncle.

Yes Raleigh/Cary/Morrisville is the home of some very decent professionals desis. (add Durham to it too but I wont make it home because of neighborhood crime rate).

Most probably, some point in future, i'ld love to go back to Raleigh/Cary and make it home. For now, I think Toronto is the best choice for my family (if not for me) due to education and presence of many close relatives

Re: The Education Gap

LOL, I was about to say , move to Charlotte . There are very few eligible bachelors here though because the community is way smaller than , Chicago, LA , SFO, NJ and NY.
Atlanta is also a good place to find lot of parhay likay , Pakistanies.

Re: The Education Gap

^ I guess "quality" is the main concern here than "quantity" :)

Yep Pakistanies in Atlanta are mostly IT guys with good career paths.

Great list .... agreed. But you forgot Boston... America's educational capital. :D As I mentioned earlier in my post.... it is very difficult to find someone who is NOT educated. Its to another level here too... multiple degrees and such is very common. There are a lot of a desi social networks here as well (beyond universities student associations... there are lots of professional organizations).... just a great city to meet someone in my opinion.

You'll find guys here that are dentists, doctors, have mba's, lawyers, IT & Engineers (Hello.... MIT and Harvard anyone?), etc. The list is continuous. :)

well I just listed places where I have lived and know personally about. Of course there are other places too (as you have mentioned Boston).

PCG, How about sponsoring an orphan's education in Pakistan until he's able to stand up on his two feet?
**
We can all bi
h about the lack of education, but let's all get off our butts and off our computers and let's try n make a difference, shall we?

I've a few more months to go before graduation, and if I get a job I will INSHALLAH start sponsoring an orphan in Pakistan, all the ways up to the PhD level and Inshallah even for post doctoral studies.

:k:

If you can form a group of your close friends that will really help in your effort.

Tameer-e-Millat Foundation - why not today?

^ Huma and others…

WONDERFUL organization that I am a part of - I think everyone should try to become a member if they live near a chapter  And if you don’t - you can always donate!

YOUR DIL - Educating the Future

Oh wow! Thanks a million for sharing these organization guys! I really don't know much about orgs in Pakistan, I was just thinking of sponsoring a child privately but hey, if there are organizations out there, all the better.

Nothing against organizations but I'd do it privately (first hand) if at all possible.

^ I would prefer that too. I mean corruption is everywhere in Pakistan and I wouldn't be too sure what my zakaat is being used for.
