Re: The Departed
With such an impressive star-cast with a legendary director, this movie has written 'mega-hit' all over it.
Cant wait to watch it.

Re: The Departed
I saw it and it was an average movie, predictable.
What was not predictable was Leonardo DiCaprios performance! The guy is an amazing actor. Hell probably win an oscar for his performance.

Thank you!
Just what I felt! The movie is at best average. Too much of the gangster shyte has been overdone and it's always the same stuff. Same shock techniques, same brash lingo, blah di blah blah. Not impressive. Yes, we know people die and once you get into it you cannot get out..DO NOT STATE THE OBVIOUS please!
And yes, Leo was hot and he was the only plus point.
Re: The Departed
You are a female, whose only comment on Di Caprio in the movie is that he “was hot” and are commenting on “The Departed”. That sums up your credibility. Thank You.
Re: The Departed
DiCaprio is a brilliant actor.
As far as who gave better performances and what not, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that these actors got written some great characters as well. Not to take anything away from their acting chops, because I think all of them gave standout performances in this film. And as good as Wahlberg was, he had some great writing behind his character. Hell, Wahlberg probably had a lot of the most memorable dialogue of the film.
Either way, I do think that Wahlberg and Nicholson gave the strongest performances in the film writing or not. Wahlberg stole just about every scene he was in.
Re: The Departed
Yeah, bite me if I do not like the same stuff packaged in a new wrapper. And that’s exactly what ‘The Departed’ was. Same old trite gangster BS Scorcese cannot get enough of.
Re: The Departed
Why would I even attempt to “bite” you when I see no credibility in your posts what so ever!? The art of storytelling is quite hard to grasp for the female sex, I realize that. Now bugger off please.
Re: The Departed

Give it a rest game miaN. There is nothing special about the 'story telling' in the movie, it's a remake of a Hong Kong flick and 'rat' dramas are as old as mankind.
Re: The Departed
Re: Nicholson, he was stale in the movie, same old crazy jack. Matt Damon's character was under developed. Wahlberg was a caricature, c'mon. :)
Re: The Departed
The fact that it’s a remake and it’s the same old “rat” drama is exactly why storytelling is important! You probably aren’t familiar with Scorcese I guess. I apologize.
Re: The Departed
If familiarity means defending average movie making and regurgitated stories, then may allah miaN keep me UN-familiar with Maulana scorcese's work.
Ameen sum ameen.
Re: The Departed
The general plot/theme wasn’t particularly novel, but the execution and acting was just great. Excellent dialogue, as well. It almost falls into the “every line is too clever by half to be realistic” category of Closer, but not quite. Scorceses’ best work since Casino.
Re: The Departed
More like "that Tarantino guy again?"
Re: The Departed
If you by any chance are trying to imply that Tarantino is greater than Scorcese, I shall kick you. Hard. If you are not, please elaborate on your statement.
Re: The Departed
Scorcese's speciality is getting great characters and building environments around them such as tormented Vietnam Veteran Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver and building the environment of seedy New York in 1976 or Goodfellas where he takes an Irish-Italian kid and builds the environement of easy money, and then takes it all away in the 3rd act.
Tarintino is a situational director. He concots weird but very original situations and places his characters in it and they interact with the environment such as Resevoir Dogs and how the characters interacted after the bank robbery as such.
Re: The Departed
I shall block your kick, grab you by your tiny little feet, swing you over my head a few times and then let loose, catapulting you face first in the nearest (recently used) toilet seat. That will teach to think before speaking and to avoid threatening to kick people you don’t know. ![]()
Now, back to the original question, the movie sucks. It’s boring, repetative and predictable. Now if my implication that Tarantino is greater than Scorcese gives you indigestion, than let me say it out-loud:
TARANTINO IS GREATER THAN SCORCESE.
SCORCESE IS INFERIOR TO THE DIRECTOR OF NEPOLEON DYNAMITE.
BARNEY THE PURPLE DINOSAUR TAKES SCORCESE TO SCHOOL AND TAKES AWAY HIS LUNCH MONEY, FOLLOWED BY A TO-THE-EAR-WEDGIE. ![]()
Re: The Departed
oh my Lord ![]()
people let it go! The Departed was a good movie. Some ppl liked it, some ppl didnt. End of story.
Re: The Departed
I thought this was a great film that was intruiging and enthralling all the way through, and didn't lose my attention for a second. Some may argue it was a little slow and a tad too long, but in my view the pacing and length were just right. The actors did a very good job. Jack Nicholson did a fantastic job with his character, and some of the lines he delivered were brilliant.
I usually dont watch films like this in the cinema, and tend to limit my visits for summer Blockbusters or visually stimulating films (mostly due to extortionate prices charged for tickets and food at theatres) . The way i see it, films like this that are plot heavy without too much razmataz can be appreciated just as well on the small screen. However films like Pirates of The Carribean, Superman etc, that have bells and whistles hanging off them, offer much more entertainment when viewed in the cinema and the atmosphere also adds to their spectacle.
But because this was directed by Scorcese (one of my favourite directors) and had gotten rave reviews, i thought it would only be fair to appreciate it on the big screen. I was definately not disappointed.
Re: The Departed
the ending was Fugged up..in a brilliant way! Loved it from beginning to end. i didnt have much of an opinion about dicaprio but after this movie and "catch me if you can" I see what all the fuss is about ...he's a super star! Jack Nicholson had the best lines.
