The death of civil society in Sindh

Aaj se 85 saal pehle mosuf khud kisi Dai (Mid-wife) ke hathon kiyun nahin chal base? :aj:

Media said : Pehle Mor (peacocks) mare, phir dhor (animals) mare, phir bache marne lage… Actually, pehle Sindhi society ka zameer maraa, uske bad gidh pal paRe and their abode is Sindh Assembly. Shame on these politicians

Sindh Assembly a place of antics

CM Sindh, Qaim Ali Shah, gave some silly excuses in an attempt to escape responsibility for the Thar debacle. The high mortality rate for mothers and child morbidity was placed on the shoulders of untrained midwives. The death of more than 200 children due to malnutrition caused an uproar, but the Sindh government’s response was unclear. It rejected the allegations against the government’s inefficiency, incompetence and sheer criminal negligence. In court, the Sindh government, accepted responsibility while denying it in the Assemblies and in front of the media. The CM said there were water filter plants installed all over Thar. He might be right to some extent, as far as installation is concerned, but most of them are non-functional.

The CM’s assertion that women don’t avail services of qualified medical staff and prefer to seek untrained midwives implies that there is a network of public health facilities, with qualified medical staff; this is a contradictory statement, as the Sindh government accepted that no medical staff is ready to serve in Thar. The people of Thar have been insulted by the CM’s remarks and they resent the silence of the MPA elected from Thar. The contradictory comments and continued inaction of Sindh government has made the Sindh Assembly a laughing stock.

Book Launch:

Governance

The event provided a platform for a debate where most of the speakers lambasted the government for allowing corruption and bad governance to play havoc with human lives.

“The book’s title reflects the condition of the whole province,” said Palijo. He ridiculed the chief minister for his remarks about dais [traditional birth attendants], with whose help the babies are delivered in the area. “How many of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s leaders were born in the hands of gynaecologists?” he asked, reprimanding the CM for trying to cover the government’s failure of responding to the famine by blaming dais.

Dr Arfana Mallah said that the appointment of only 181 government doctors for a population of 1.5 million Tharis was reflective of the Sindh government’s negligent attitude. She complained that the voices criticising the PPP’s government were always termed as a conspiracy against democracy. “After having been in the government for six to seven years, the PPP should now come out of this conspiracy syndrome and start taking the problems seriously.”

Meanwhile, both the ruling party’s stalwarts, Khuhro and Chandio, tried their best to shift the blame on people and past governments as well as the armed forces, which they claimed prevented development till 1993. “What we see in Tharparkar and other parts of the province depicts irresponsibility on the part of all Sindhi people, including doctors, engineers, politicians or bureaucrats,” said Khuhro. He lamented that Sindhis had not yet emancipated themselves completely from cultural evils.

Book review**

Dr Khangarani pointed out that Halepoto’s book lacked content on the economic migration of Tharis. “Livelihood of Thari people is dependent on rain. They migrate to find work in other parts of Sindh whenever there is low rainfall.”

He said that the meteorological record of the last 100 years showed seven years of low rainfall in each decade. According to him, barter trade remained the mode of business until the 1970s. “While some Tharis changed their primary modes of sustenance, the majority remained heedless and detached.”

He feared that the said instance would repeat itself if the local people were not educated and trained to avail benefits from the coal-led development of Tharparkar.

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh

BaRa leader. My foot. What did he do for Sindh except introducing useless quota system, which ruined our generations after generations.

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh

I know what are my roots. At least I don’t support corrupt leaders. Just calm down and you will find two links from this page. Oh you are a Sindhi, let me refer to you a Sindhi link.

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh

Ohhhh , Kuchh jalnay ki ...............
Your foot can not be so big
easy dear , easy

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh

I just can't buy the slogans of big leader, when I go through history of Mr Bhutto who sent many writers to jail, just because they raised voice for rights of Sindh. PPP only plays Sindh card and doesn't care for Sindhis.

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh

He did not. Quota system already existed which was endorsed by him and his sucessors. If you think quota system was useless and ruined generations, you are wrong. This kind of equal opportunity system for less representative class exist all over the world. So again suck it up till national assembly passes a new resolution, approved by senate and becomes part of constitution.

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh

In shadow of this quota system, PPP get a chance not to develop rural Sindh. Why should every Sindhi travel to Karachi and Hyderabad for education and job? Why not people of LaRkana, Sukkur and Jackobabad get these facilities in their hometowns? This quota system stopped such development in those areas and also created a sense of insecurity in population of Karachi and Hyderabad. They never get local population running their own cities. But this is a different discussion...

So why Mr Qaim Al Shah (Peer e Tareeqat, Taaj e Shariyat) rehmatullah Aliye Maddazilluhu passed such comments?

Did he and his all forefathers come in this world through a gynecologist?

Did he appoint required number of gynecologists before uttering these words of wisdom?

Re: The death of civil society in Sindh
