One of my aunts actually has her daughters use Fair and Lovely and won't let them go out in the sun. Supposedly she thinks they won't get any rishtas. Truly Pathetic!

Brilliantly put.

You're implying that light is more preferable to dark; this is a fact of life. For example, why do ladies put powder on, or blush to make their cheeks look rosy red? It is unfortunate, but thats reality.

why do you look at a girl who has makeup on and wear shorts - showing her white legs etc.
while on the other hand you have sharmili si larki with no makeup sitting quietly and dressed modestly

I can only speak for myself so here goes:

Even though I grew up in North America I don’t condone sluttiness. I am old fashioned and traditional. I believe in ladies wearing shalwar kameez (no burqa; too extreme for me). Ladies should have “sharam in their aankhen” when speaking. And natural brown hair too, if possible :D.

But I’m not against makeup. I’m just saying the motive behind it is too look white because they believe that white skin enhances their beauty.

i personally think that delicate features are a sign of beauty. How their eyes and nose are and how their smile is, and smooth glowing skin.

But I guess white skin is admired by desis because it isn't very common since most desis are brown skinned. Just like many desis feel a light eye colored person is exotic and pretty.

i guess when ur talking about makeup, u mean foundation. Anil ji almost all gals who have any sense to put makeup on, puts the color (of foudation) that goes with their skin. So basically makeup has nothing to do with making oneself look lighter or darker.

Its to make ur skin look even or hide blemishes and yes to enhance features too

The harsh reality is that if all things are equal (i.e. facial features, turbiat, and family background) a person will be more attracted to a girl who is fair than to one who is dark. We can be politically correct about it, we can ignore it, and we can be naive about it but we can't change reality. :(

Dude, stop thinking that your opinion is that of the whole world. All things being equal, many guys and girls would prefer dark over fair just as many would prefer vice versa.

Faruk Bhai, there is no doubt that some dark skinned girls are HOT. However, are they marriage material? Does one want to marry someone who is dark with the idea that their coming nasal will also be dark?

These are all practical questions that are very much a part of marriage decisions.

If one is just looking for a "good time" then it is irrelevant if the girl is dark or fair. However, when it comes to marriage skin colour, unfortunately, has a lot of influence.

why so sensitive? There is no doubt that all humans are EQUAL. However, within our kaum, light skinned is preferred. I'm not neccessarily agreeing with it.

sonia said it right… but too much of anything is not good… every now and then

anil - if you look at white , black and brown picture or anything plain —it wont be as attractive as something with a touch of blue, green, red or violet etc [who wears this color lipstick ]etc colors.

i dont mind giving you my favorite lipaassteec only thing is you gotta give it back after disinfecting it

You seem to think that your opinion is that of the worlds. Not everyone believes this is so. Believe it or not, there are guys and girls out there who find darker attractive than fairer (and vice versa) all things being equal.

Please don't assume that everyone feels the same way you do.
