The Creative Corner

Ok Ladies and Germs,

Creating something out of nothing can be quite rewarding. Sometimes we have specific ideas in mind to decorate our homes but also know that things needed to achieve that style might be pretty expensive , so you try and do them on your own to create that look in a less expensive manner.

Some of us are really really creative .. so help the non creative ones here to see the benefit of creating stuff from unwanted stuff..
These could be home decorations, bedding, cushions, wall designs , anything really ..

Up for the challenge? please start sharing ideas ..if you have a certain design in mind that you want to try and create yourself but arent getting enough ideas , feel free to share with us and we will try and help as much as we can :hugz:

Re: The Creative Corner

This one is for a friend. She has been looking for a table runner for ages now .. but doesnt like the usual ones we get in the market .. she said they arent fancy enough or doesnt match her color scheme.

So after multiple failed attempts of going shopping with her and not being able to find anything suitable, we finally came upon this one particular piece but was horribly expensive .. so we dropped that too ..

Finally now I have told her I will crochet a runner and four coasters for her .. I am keeping the colors in mind that she has in her living room .. and its going to cost us a fraction of a price of what we saw in the market earlier and much more stylish as well .. the market one was an ordinary cloth used to make a runner !

Will post pics in a few days .. its still in the making ..

Re: The Creative Corner

i want to make a bag for toys…

my baby plays n throw them all around the house…i do collect them million times in a day…but i wanted to reserve one bag for him which would attract me so that i’ll enjoy this “collecting toys” from all rooms…

i have a grey colored pouch of a purse i bought last year and i no longer keep that handbag in that big pouch…so i am thinking to do applique work by hand on it with bright colors…maybe an owl and logo of toys or a sheep i havent decided yet…the kapra i’m using for applique will be my baby’s used clothes:D

lets see how it goes…will post pics!

p.s i want to try applique work by hand on this bag if this works well for me i’ll make baby blanket…
making these for the first time! i’m so excited!

Re: The Creative Corner

I am loving the idea akmoti , definitely going to look really good .. keep posting pics for us to see what you are upto :cb: its a challenging task.. I tried applique long time ago and realized it took so much concentration specially when cutting the applique pieces and then ensuring to stitch them corner to corner so they look tidy !

what design have you got in mind? any pics on the internet that will closely describe it?

Re: The Creative Corner

sure will post pics…

i wanted to start with simple designs like this yellow polka dot round shaped piece with a letter on it…first pic on this page…
Personalized Baby Blankets

then will proceed to an owl found these

baby / Owl Party Dress. via Etsy.
Dwell on Joy: {I LOVE OWL} Taggies!

this tutorial requires sewing machine but atleast i’m getting the idea of cutting n drawing alphabets etc…

if i failed , i will switch to embroidery and i’m expert in it!

Re: The Creative Corner

What I intend to do once I have some spare time is to paint a ginormous (thinking 60’X40’) painting. As I always do, I’ll start grand without taking into account my limitations (read: inept painter). So the project would get started with huge fanfare, raising everyone’s expectation at home that this one is certainly going to be her masterpiece…except it’d be given up half-way, languishing in the basement forever.

Ok in all seriousness, I want to do an abstract project, something along the lines of analytical cubism but maybe with desi leanings. Still seeking an inspiration. I really like the following painting, but it’s got figures in there, so it’s a no no. Anyone comes across a nice abstract, please share.

Re: The Creative Corner

Akmoti that polka dot thing is simply awesome , I love it .. so simple yet so trendy .. Even the owl pic you chose is awesome ..

you can always cut up the alphabets on a paper first and then use that paper or hardboard as a stencil to cut the cloth .. using a machine is a tough call in the beginning but looks like you already have the perfect plan B :lifey:

Really looking forward to seeing this in a ready form .. which design is gonna go on the toy bag?

all the best :e6:

Re: The Creative Corner

Contrarian, :hayaa: you can paint that stuff? omg , its awesomeness at its peak .. no kidding.. I love that art in the pic , even though its got objects in there but they are actually adding to the abstract beauty of the design , the colors are so awesome and blend with each other so well ..

If you lived closer I would have definitely gotten you in for some wall art :cb:
Will keep an eye out for designs for you

All the very best .. secretly in my heart I wish and wish I could do that painting .. but I havnt touched a brush or a canvas in my life :hinna:

Re: The Creative Corner

No girl I am no where close to that level of expertise required to paint this piece. :hinna: I am pretty sure my abstract will turn out something like this:

As much as some people love to put down abstract, I think it’s harder than realism.

Re: The Creative Corner

you are very right, its harder because abstract is risky stuff , everyone views it differently. Thats where the risk starts .. When we have an object or a scenario painted , our mind already knows what it is and we focus only on the detail, color etc … with Abstract , the mind either gets confused initially and then slowly starts absorbing the design .. by then somewhere in your mind you have already decided if you like that piece or not !

I love Abstract with a touch of realism .. or the other way round .. The other day I saw this fantastic piece at a hotel .. it was abstract mostly but if you concentrated enough you could actually see a horse galloping at speed .. I kept staring at it for at least 3-4 minutes and finally asked husband if he can see the horse too or is it just my mind .. he confirmed he could see it too :cb:

How i wish I could paint :hinna:

Re: The Creative Corner

CB wouldl you share which colors are in your mind for the crochet work?
and how the interiors of her living room are?

i did crochet more than 10years back…my nani taught me and i used to make galas and sleeves for my kameez shalwar…it was fun

for the toybag…i havent decided the owl yet…i even like the one on contrarian’s display :cb:

Re: The Creative Corner

ok lady :d once i made lots of hand made greeting cards …actually i was ‘‘kuch zayada hi free’’ n lots n lots of ideas struck to my mind ,i bought sm card papers n there were alot of useless things i used in card making…like pieces of laces ,motifs, beads, cut off wedding cards, broken jewellary, jute, coffee beans etc etc etc… i wl try to share pics very soon

Re: The Creative Corner

Yes certainly Akmoti… Her sofa’s are deep golden with a tinge of yellow .. Curtains are all brown with the same cloth piece as border .. The sofa cushions are brown and yellow mix ..

She recently got these beautiful vases that are sky blue in color .. Thats the living room decor..

The dining table is also in the living room , its open plan large room .. So obviously the table runner needed to be the same color scheme. I am gonna take some pics .. I asked her to choose similar shades to the cushions if she wanted the brightness on the table .. but if she wanted elegance , she could go for a brownish natural color ..

She decided to go for the bright look , so now the crochet I am doing for her is mostly in yellow with a brown border and blue flowers on the short side edgings ..

I will take some pics and post them in a bit ..

Re: The Creative Corner

Loving the idea .. please do share pics :e6:

I know a friend made some pics similar to what you did for her baby’s nursery.. She took the baby’s pics cut them to the size she wanted , stuck each pic onto a cardboard leaving enough space on all four sides for decor .. and then used laces and buttons to decorate the borders as per the color scheme of the nursery .. looked awesome and so creative ..

THe best part was that some of those beautiful laces were actually kaam wali sparkly kaam from her old wedding dresses .. she put them to brilliant use and created a really good memory ..

Re: The Creative Corner

uff awesome idea!!! i was also thinking that yellow crochet will look good!!!
