looks like they’ll try to make it into a whole soap about the fighter’s families etc.. to keep it apart from the Fox flop..
like the boardroom.. i’d only be interested in the fights..

Re: The Contender..
Well I liked the Premiere.. they kept it quick and didn't drag a lot.. although I missed the start so maybe they did.. It's hosted by Sylvester Stallone and six-time world boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard.
Official Summary:
Sixteen of the most promising fighters in the country arrived at their specially constructed Contender Gymnasium to live, train and fight. Each boxer had a different story, but all shared the same goal: to fight at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for one million dollars and the chance to change their lives and the lives of their family.
The boxers were divided into teams of two.. East and West (based on their hometowns) and the team that won the challenge (drag three logs up a steep one mile climb) would win the ability to pick an opponent against their chosen figher.
Quite surprisingly, Alfonso Gomez (10-2, 4 KO) and one of West Coast's weaker fighter, volunteered and picked Peter, who appeard to be the toughest fighter (20-0, 10 KO) from the East Side.
The match showed how records don't tell the whole story... Alfonso outboxed a stronger Peter and won the 5 round bout
Exciting stuff.. who doesn't like boxing without having to pay huge PPV fees!
Two new episodes 10/9 Tuesday (today) and 8/7 Sunday.. do watch.
Re: The Contender..
ok i missed it yesterday.. but i'll catch the recap at nbc.com
Re: The Contender..
any body can tell me timing of the programme ??
Re: The Contender..
I am guessing it comes on Monday nights. What time?
Re: The Contender..
i think it'll settle down to 8/7 pm Sundays..
dunno but the NBC website still shows 2 weeks only.. what happened yesterday?
and the bio says Ahmed is fully supported (means all expenses paid) by his gf too..
Re: The Contender..
Ishe almost caved in to the pressure but decided to stick to his word and picked Ahmed for the fight. Ahmed got his ass kicked by Ishe in the fifth round and lost.
Ahmed was fairly upset after getting knocked out but was happy that his supposedly pretty face wasn't hurt too bad.
Re: The Contender..
It’s old news but just in case for those of you who don’t know Najai Turpin one of the boxers committed suicide.

Re: The Contender..
Contender is pretty good. The premiere was awesome. That guy challenged the best boxer and he beat him. They were saying that he was 50-1 favourite to win but the challenger won with a dominating 5th round. The show has really increased my intrest in boxing.
Re: The Contender..
this was the Najai episode.. he lost to Sergio who was definitely the better boxer (and also reads books for a change!).
It appears Ishe Smith was right when he said West Coast has ‘tougher’ boxers than the East Coast in general. To date boxers with very good records on the East have been losing to relatively mixed-record boxers from the West Coast.
Jeff from the East got Chicken Pox and had to leave the contest.. that left the room open for a second chance for Peter Manfratto… the guy who lost to Alfonso in the first episode.. u could see alfonso wasn’t too pleased ![]()
Re: The Contender..
I just watched the first episode, and i enjoyed it specialy the boxer challenging the strongest fighter :k:
The strongest fighter was nervous and was under pressure in da whole fight.
Its a shame that homeboy took his own life -- Najai Turpin really took this losing thing way too far. I feel so bad for his daughter, if he didn't have the strength to continue on with life for himself, he should at least have thought about his daughter and what she is more than likely going to go through. I feel sorry for that little girl. :(
Re: The Contender..
Man, nbc is becoming like those crappy ass paki channles that show thier programming at any time that pleases them. I don't even know what time the contender is on now.
Re: The Contender..
the official time is 8/7 Central on Sundays... but yes they have been erratic the past few episodes..
Miguel challenged peter manfrado thinking Peter was on a downward spiral having lost to Alfonso, but he was met with a surprisingly steadfast Peter who took his share of punches but found the strength in him to rebound in later rounds and land some good ones to take a closely contested fight..
Personally i don't think Peter is a 'good' boxer, he lacks the speed, throws too few punches and doesn't "move" like a boxer, but being the larger guy, he just punched harder and when he did land some it hurt Miguel..
Glad to see Manfreddo come back and win. Although I'm cheering for the West, Manfreddo won me over with his family cuts. He's a all around good guys. Other than that, I'm cheering for Ishe and the guy from the west who won the first fight (cant think of his name right now) -- and anyone from the west fighting some punk from the East.
Re: The Contender..
man! In today's episode Anthony beat the living sh**t out of Brent! Man! I felt sorry for Brent! He cried like a little girl when he lost..
Anthony better watch his back now!
Re: The Contender..
lol he wouldn't stop crying
Re: The Contender..
Man, this is the best reality show EVER.
This show will no doubt do wonders for the sport of boxing.
