The COLLAPSE of Pakistan...

Considering Pakistan as it stands today, I think its important to step back and refresh ones memory of the recent past, as it can be enlightening and somewhat cathartic. Now this “report” which was published by the experts over at the NIC and CIA in 2005, but which I only heard of in 2007, claimed that by 2015 (which is this year for those of us who havent checked), Pakistan will have become a failed state and will “balkanize.” There would be a civil war going on with factions vying to control Nuclear assets etc.

Now when I read this then, i thought to myself, this is complete BS. And I made it a point to post this same news again in 2015, just to remind who ever needs to be reminded, that pundits are very bad at predicting the future. And anyone who believes they have some sort of prophetic insight on the future is delusional.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan will be a “failed” state by 2015 as it would be affected by civil war, complete Talibanisation and struggle for control of its nuclear weapons, premier US intelligence agencies have said in an assessment report.

Forecasting a “Yugoslavia-like fate” for Pakistan, the US National Intelligence Council (NIC) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in a jointly prepared Global Futures Assessment Report have said “by year 2015 Pakistan would be a failed state, ripe with civil war, bloodshed, inter-provincial rivalries and a struggle for control of its nuclear weapons and complete Talibanisation”.

“Pakistan will not recover easily from decades of political and economic mismanagement, divisive policies, lawlessness, corruption and ethnic friction,” said the report quoted by former Pakistan High Commissioner to United Kingdom Wajid Shamsul Hasan in an article in the ’ * South Asia Tribune * '.

Titled ‘Will Pakistan Army invade Balochistan as per the NIC-CIA Plan’, the former senior diplomat said "in the context of Balochistan, one would like to refer to the 2015 NIC report. It forecast a Yugoslavia-like fate for Pakistan.

“The military operation that has been put in motion there would further distance the Baloch people from rest of the country. That perhaps is the (NIC-CIA) Plan,” Hasan said.

“Nascent democratic reforms will produce little change in the face of opposition from an entrenched political elite and radical Islamic parties. In a climate of continuing domestic turmoil, the Central government’s control probably will be reduced to the Punjabi heartland and the economic hub of Karachi,” the former diplomat quoted the NIC-CIA report as saying.

Expressing apprehension, Hasan asked, “are our military rulers working on a similar agenda or something that has been laid out for them in the various assessment reports over the years by the National Intelligence Council in joint collaboration with CIA?”

His article comes in the backdrop of growing violence between the Balochis and the Pakistani security forces stationed in the gas-rich province.

The recent moves by the security forces to evict all residents within a 15-km radius of the Pakistan’s biggest Sui gas plant and the decision to create a cantonment near it has given a fillip to the anti-Islamabad insurgent activities of Balochi groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army, reports said.

The reports said Pakistan was taking the “most drastic step yet” in its bid to crush a deadly tribal rebellion by forcibly evicting all residents from around 500 dwellings within 15 kilometres of the country’s biggest Sui gasfield.

The Army says such a step would prevent further attacks and protect residents from the devastating consequences of a major explosion, the reports said.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

The map is hilarious. Afghanistan gains territory, Saudi lose, Yemen gains (hello Houthis), Kurdistan and Balochistan become states !

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

We should worry however , Our enemy is our mindset , issues of people should be addressed and we need to learn from history
Don’t leave the Pakistan alone

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

With the likes of traitorous Hussain Haqqani sitting in US and spewing sheet, such “reports” will surface again.

As long as few good men are left, Pakistan is here to stay.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

 They can predict all they want and be happy in their delusional state, doesn’t make one bit of difference.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

China is not living in paradise of fool. They are heavily investing in Pakistan and stable Pakistan is the answer of regional development of neighboring countries. Forget about the greater Afghanistan and Free Balochistan theory. Afghanistan itself is facing internal issues, and they will not acquire our land. Iran will also never let Irani part of Balcohistan.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

Talk about a flop, they got EVERYTHING wrong.

Never assume you know anything for certain. Just last year, there were those that were predicting Indian economic growth was over. This year they are saying its surpassing China, and its rise to super power status is imminent. Bottom line, never get taken in by hype.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

China was a close friend before 1971 also but we divided into two .

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

Soon after 911 Mush requested China to help. But it refused due to its case of membership of WTO was pending. Mush found no support from any one made blind u-turn taking Pakistan to further lows. He had an option to remain neutral by resigning and handing over government to care-takers for conducting impartial elections.

As regard Op’s collapse of Pakistan, it already collapsed in 1971.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

Thanks OP for bringing this up. Sometimes its good to reflect back and analyze what others had predicted about us, what have they achieved and what have we accomplished.

I remember the article very well, especially the map cuz it circulated very widely. And If you remember right after 2005 the uncertainty was rampant, the conditions were deteriorating and nothing seemed to be going right. Especially later when the dictator on-seat imposed emergency and other nasty things were happening.

But I alway say Pakistan is highly under-estimated. Pakistanis as a nation are very resilient. On one side there is so much corruption and all other sorts of problems but on the other side there are hard working people who vow not to give up and continue their struggle. When Raymond Davis incident happened, it made everyone think that they should better correct themselves before external agents make them completely hollow. Similarly despite being so much religious, one peshawar incident was enough to unite entire nation against extremism.

And you may say as much bad as you can think of about Zardari but one thing he did was somehow managed to stay in power for 5 years without any dictator throwing him over and crushing the system as its been happening in pretty much every decade. Mind you that was the first ever democratic govt to complete its tenure. And once again NS can be further evil but let him complete his term and you’ll see much better things happening. And inshallah if the cycle of democratic govts keep on rotating, Pakistan will have a better democracy than India.

We still face a ton of challenges, corruption and extremism are the top of the list, which is actually too long. But every progressing country faces these issues. As long as we stay on track. What we need now is to have some self-sufficiency and decrease in relying on "foreign’ aid.

So yes, Pakistan is still here. And inshallah will remain on the map as it is right now. Just more progressive and strong and unified. Inshallah!!

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

Pakistan is full of surprises.

And Democracy seems to be doing just fine. And compared to much of the rest of the Muslim world, Pakistan is a model of efficiency. Fix the security and energy situation and Pakistan is poised to take off.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

Zardari was saved by Uncle Sam or I must say aunty Sam :). Otherwise Zardari was long gone the way ex CJ and ex ISI were after his arse. There is a thread on his running away from Pakistan, where people here were dancing bhangrha though their joy did not last longer. Remember papa john padris rants on the container “PM aor President woh quzishta hogaiay”

Your above post looks very nice. But in view of following news by CAOS Mr. Sharif, do you think it is really a democracy??? Is it job of dagga PM or army’s chief?? One thing is clear from the statements of army’s chief that all blood shed and turmoil in Pakistan in the guise of jehadi and urban terrorists were brought in by the army which is now in cleansing format, at least for the time being.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

No its beyond any doubt that this system is faaaaar from the real democracy and yes we all know how agencies and army are manipulating the system in their way but i would still take these baby steps as compared to a complete overthrown or martial-law which im sure makes many people happy but the most disastrous of all kinds for the country.

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

Excellent thread!

I remember back then Hamid Mir ( the notorious CIA agent, infact anyone not agreeing with anyone is CIA agent), while having a session with some Politicial science students of well known US university, said, Pakistan is there to stay, 2007, 2009 or 2012 or whatever new dates they are just going to past.

Pakistan have passed almost all the tests, it is not going through a age of Awareness and soon we will be entering in next phase… Lets pin our hopes on Pakistan… and that will get us prosperous Pakistan.

On the negative remarks above, i am sure even if Pakistan to become a super power, then again, people will say, Super Power kahay ka, yeh tu Super ka ‘S’ sahi nahi likha… and this what one can find in their posts right now…

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

we have a different view , you are trying to make only Punjab a super power and rest of Pakistanis including Sarikis and Riasti should be our slave

Re: The COLLAPSE of Pakistan…

This BS of Zardari and PPP is not going to work anymore… Sindh under PPP how much progress it have made??? how much hospitals and schools or universities or infrastructure projects it have got from PPP govt when it was in center and now when it is in Sindh… your generation is reason Pakistan was divided back then and your generation is reasons we have looters as our rulers and your generation is the biggest slave and corrupt mind generation ever produced…

Your whining will never end… Punjab have throughly rejected your kind of Politics.. that is blaming and crying only… the South Punjab Zone have elected/voted for PML-N… you got to live with it, because your Yousaf RAZA GILLANI did nothing for them… as it suits PPP to have uneducated and illiterate lot…

You blame army for everything… i say, it is Wadera of Sindh, Punjab, KPK and Balochistan (mostly in PPP) who have always supported military rule because it suits them…

I would be happy when the last of your generation is gone for good and our nation would speedup their journey towards development…

It is like Bani-Israel, who was lost in Desert and couldn’t find way out till the last of SLAVE mentality was dead…

now continue with your whining… it is like that unthankfull cow who grazed everyday day but always cried that there is nothing left for tomorrow…

PS: Your written above does not mean the poster, it means the whole generation of whiners
