The chef's attire ...

When i get cooking i look more like a clown then a chef :smack: .. or so my husband says :vivo:

I got myself a beautiful looking apron , that i wear all the time … and I was hunting for the chef’s topi , which i found some time back and immediately bought …

And when i cant find the topi around or its in the washing , i just tie my head with a shopper bag :omg:

and I wear Latex gloves for the whole cooking process and dish washing process

Freaky , eh? you tell me … do you just go and start cooking ? or do you actually make the effort to dress up properly before you go into the kitchen .. the reason being hygiene … we dont want hair to be found in the dish :vivo:

:konfused:

Re: The chef's attire ...

i tie my hair and roll back my sleeves and go back to the kitchen.

excuse me while i go check my daal

Re: The chef’s attire …

ure supposed to change? :konfused:

I want a chef’s hat. Where can I find one? :hinna:

Re: The chef's attire ...

I tie my hair and roll up my sleeves, and always have a kitchen towel hanging down from my left shoulder !

Re: The chef’s attire …

I got one , from ASDA the other day .. they had some on a special offer along with the oven gloves :lifey: I dunno where you are gonna get them in the states though …:hmmm:

Yeah , I usually change before going into the kitchen , mainly coz if i am wearing clothes that have a fibre fallout, or hair tend to stick to the material , then i definitely change …

Re: The chef’s attire …

Oh. I never tie my hair up, but i have not found any hair in my food (believe me, my husband wont let me hear the end of it he did!).
Maybe cz i dress crappy around the house any way :bummer:

Re: The chef’s attire …

Mashallah you must have really strong hair then :hmmm: ..

I have thin fine hair and I dread the thought of finding one in the food  coz many a times i find some hair fallout on the shoulders and that means it can pop into the food anytime .. so i just take extra measures really …

oooooooh thats what i looked like before … kitchen towel hanging down my shoulder .. I love that look

Re: The chef’s attire …

I should get new kitchen towels. :hmmm: and matching Tshirts :hmmm:

Re: The chef’s attire …

yeah nikki, look like a proper chef :lifey:

Not really. bohot girh te hain :bummer: but still ahvent found it in food.

I still want a chef’s hat. I told husband he gave me a :emmy: look.

Re: The chef’s attire …

I spend more time changing than cooking. I have to have a different shirt for everytime I cook, not because it gets dirty but becuase I have a very acute sense of smell and I can smell onion, garlic, chillies, and even ground spices, however my husband thinks I am obsessed and there is no such thing as khana smell. :frowning:

If I have just taken a shower or so I keep my hair covered with a shower cap (exclusively for kitchen use) just because again I believe that smell will get into my hair.. never thought about finding a hair in food though

and yes I buy lots of T-shirts just for kitchen purposes. sighhh

Re: The chef's attire ...

^ that's okay GTG. i believe you. there is such a thing as khana smell. especially when we're making desi dishes. especially when you're making tarkay walay chowal, you can smell the onions on you even the next day.

i've got a seperate bunch of t-shirts like you that i use just for when i'm at home or cooking. can't mix 'em up with the ones i wear to work or outside, cause then they just smell. the smell does go after you wash 'em, but i tend to just wear 'em at home instead.

I always thought that was a man's thing to do...towel on shoulder or a pen behind the ear... this world is becoming more and more unisexual.

Re: The chef’s attire …

GtG…there is desi khana smell…!!
so dont worry about it…
btw…my mom also doesnt agree with this whole smell thing and how I have to shut all bedroom doors and open up windows and have exhaust fans and candles prior to start cooking…:hehe:

I always have my hair tied up so that’s not an issue…
My only concern is the smell getting into the clothes…so if I am wearing something nice or sth I just changed into I will definitely change to a t-shirt and PJs maybe…
and after I am done with the cooking the clothes go to the washer..I just cannot stand the pyaaz and masala smell coming from them…

Re: The chef's attire ...

I don't tie my hair..:o but I never found any hair in food but I'm still starting to tie my hair for cooking just coz it turns ppl off sometimes and you never know when hair really falls into the food.

I have to be in ghar walay clothing when I cook and apron is a must...dollar store rocks!! :D

desi food has a STRONG smell but the thing is when a person is cooking s/he can’t smell it but others definitely CAN…I once almost threw up because my classmate’s clothes smelled like koftay…:yucky:…needless to say I stopped eating koftay for a long time, it was THAT bad…:frowning:

Re: The chef’s attire …

I have become so conscious its unbelievable .. I saw a few desi aunties , whose arms were full of body hair and when they cook , sometimes , hair is found in the food … ( i used to order tiffin sometimes when at work ) … It was a huge put off …so now i cant cook unless i have my hair tied back and also gloves that go mid elbow length :smack:

In short i look like a doctor about to enter the operation theatre

Re: The chef's attire ...

what if while you are cooking, a booger rolls off your nose into the salan? :|
