you need a surgeon’s mask.
Re: The chef's attire ...
I tie my hair back and make sure Im wearing ghar ke kaprey which are reserved only for cooking purposes.
I dont wear gloves unless Im washing dishes. BUT its a good idea to wear them while cooking too...never thought of that. I hate how my thumb gets all raw when I cut an onion/veggie quickly. I know Im supposed to chop it on a chopping board but when Im in a rush, I dont bother with it and then eventually forget. So, my thumb will get raw and rough. :(
Your entire post made me literally laugh out loud. You are so cute CB!! ![]()
If I know I am going to be cooking something intense with a lot of masalay and tarkay wali smells… then I change into a pair of older PJ’s that I then later throw into the wash right away. I also super conscientious about smelling like desi food
… I tie my hair back and also put on my “kitchen headband” to decrease the risk of hair fallout into food (ewe).
I like the idea of wearing a proper chef’s topi…
Whoever mentioned they wear a shower cap when they cook … that is brilliant too… I’m going to start doing that… solves both issues…hair fallout and smells going into the hair. Perfect ![]()
Wearing a gloves is a really good idea too CB…
My mom wears like 1950s housecoat when she cooks… it has full sleeves and goes almost all the way down to her ankles. It’s baby blue with pink flower embroidery and yellow buttons that go all the way down. We have always made fun of her for it…but she refuses to switch over to an apron… she luvs the housecoat. lol.
Re: The chef's attire ...
^oh. my. gosh.
she's a true copy of her mom, for a second i thought it was chef rahat.
Re: The chef’s attire …
CB, come on! What’s food without a bit of filth, sweat and hair in it?
I often heard in Pakistan, us ke baghair taste kahan aata hai.. ![]()
Jokes apart, you will faint if you saw how food is ‘prepared’ in stalls and restaurants in Pakistan. There is ONE bucket of water that is used all day long for washing plates, silverware, EVERYTHING. Do you really think those guys even wash their hands properly after using the bathroom, and how about the constant nose picking and scratching? ![]()
I can understand the cutting/chopping part and dish washing one. But do you keep wearing the gloves while handling hot pots and pans too during cooking? Latex could melt and burn your skin badly.
Re: The chef’s attire …
I don’t do anything *paranormal *while entering the kitchen
cooking or not cooking my hair’s always tied back, except for weddings maybe
so that’s not an issue..
I don’t like wearing gloves as they feel like more of a hindrance, not even when I am doing the dishes. I do wash my hands like a zillion times while cooking not just to keep them clean but also because I can’t stand anything on my hands, like flour/oil/veggie or fruits juice, in short pretty much anything. So normally its some work-wash-dry-work-wash-dry routine every couple of minutes.. For this reason I have to have the sink closest to my work top.
Re: The chef’s attire …
@ Masi : did you just call my topi and apron , paranormal?
…![]()
I think this is a great habit ,Masi , constantly washing up your hands all through the cooking process … since my hands are in the gloves , I keep washing the gloves every few minutes
..
@ TLK, yes you are absolutely right TLK , its quite risky to cook wearing Latex gloves … I learnt it the hard way
… but now what i do is , take special care , if i am cooking on high fire, I dont take the risk and remove the gloves .. but if its light fire .. I just carry on in the gloves ..though its a bad habit .. I should definitely take off the gloves during the cooking process feeling guilty
@ Pareezay,
.. I fought with the restaurant wala for like half hour this time when i went to pakistan , coz i saw that balti in which they were washing the dishes
.. then they threw me out of their restaurant before i could see some of their other master peices ![]()
Re: The chef’s attire …
i dont do ANY of this stuff yet no ones complained that they can smell desi food on me.
Maybe i should ask everyone to do a smell test on me when they see me ![]()
Re: The chef’s attire …
Sara, if they havnt said it , dont ask them
.. dont invite trouble ![]()
