The book vs the movie

I have always been a fan of the book instead of the movie. Be it the Time Machine to Gulliver’s travels to the Journey to the center of the earth. The movies are fun and everything but the idea of a book really brings the world to life. And its a personal pet peeve when you discuss a master piece and people are like yeah I know what you mean. The movie was brilliant.

That is when I want to grab an AK-47 and shot them.

Re: The book vs the movie

i agree. sometimes my imagination goes overboard and when i watch the movie, it doesn't seem as good as how i imagined it. :(

kaisi ho CM?

Re: The book vs the movie

The books are almost always better than their movies. Except for Nicholas Sparks' books. :/ Those suck.

Re: The book vs the movie

Gullivers Travels wasnt treated well I would second. But sometimes the movies just add to the fun and imagination of the book. I would say the Harry Potter series and even the Twilight saga, for that matter, were done well on the screen, if not as good as in the books.

Re: The book vs the movie

I got Gulliver’s Travels from the local library but I was half way through when had to move out from the area so never got the chance to finish it.
I watched this mini series on BBC and must say it was very close to the book…but yeah, movies kill your imagination.

Re: The book vs the movie

The Kite Runner and Memoirs of Geisha - movies came close. Esp the former. Book was still better.

( should read more)

Re: The book vs the movie

I ALWAYS read the book first. And then I get cussed by people for reading the book when I coulda saved myself time and watched the filum :frowning:

There are very few exceptions to when the films may meet the standards of the books. Especially when you see when an actor’s cast to play someone and you’re like ‘wtf were you thinking, he SO doesn’t look like Christian Grey’ :teary2:

Re: The book vs the movie

Have you seen Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes…:hehe:

Re: The book vs the movie

As a kid saw Mahabharath movie in mid 60s. To this day when I think of Bhima, Dara Singh,'s image automatically comes to mind. Read C Rajagopalacharis Mahabharatha book circa 1969. Felt like some of the text was shown in the movie. The book still was far, far better. Ditto Ramayana movie and book by same author.

Re: The book vs the movie

Well thats one thing, I mean the caste not meeting the levels of your imagination, but that be borne I guess. The injustice is actually what the screen play does. Since a voluminous book has to be summed up in 2 hours, they leave out SO MUCH. This is something which always makes the movie out of the book so insatiating. Like the Harry Potter series. Each book is fitting to have a tv series with as many episodes as could cover the story possibly well. The movies cannot really satisfy the book readers fully ever.

Re: The book vs the movie

Did you just say something Dr. Watson-san?

Re: The book vs the movie

Books > Movies

Re: The book vs the movie

Always The Book!

Howeves, throughout Harry Potter I was forced to view the movies as a separate entity as I was going to drive myself crazies. I am still annoyed that Winky the drunken house elf wasnt in any of the movies and they left Dobby out of some of the movies, but if I pretend that the movies have nothing to do with the books, then I can enjoy both!

I think the only Book Vs Movie that I actually really enjoyed both of was Q&A and Slumdog Millionaire. Although the latter was largely enjoyable due to Anil Kapoor and his pronunciation of the word Millionaire!

Re: The book vs the movie

^ did not know slimdog mill came out as movie

Meant to say did not know slum dog millionaire was based on a book. Milly's post below cleared it up.

3 idiots - read about 1st 25 pages whole visiting folks back home. Then saw the movie. A shameless copy - this one wad the book scene for scene. (Did not credit the book though)

Re: The book vs the movie

always movies. books are boring.

Re: The book vs the movie

The book is called Q&A by Vikas Sirup (sp) but the film is called Slumdog Millionaire.

Re: The book vs the movie

Thanks! Will check it out.

Re: The book vs the movie

Depends. Sometimes the movies are as good or better than the book. Sometimes, the movies completely ruin the novel. I thought Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter and Devil Wears Prada were good adaptions. I don't think John Carter was a good reflection of the novel (Princess of Mars) though.

Re: The book vs the movie

I love to read, so I always prefer the book to the movie.

However, I think The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was done really well. There was a lot that was left out, however with such a long book you could not possibly put all the events/detail in the movie.

I forget the name of the Dan Brown book/movie, not Angels and Demons, the other one. But that was done well as a movie as well, I thought.

Otherwise, I liked the book better and thought it was way better in these cases:

Twilight
The Help
Namesake
Kite Runner

Cant think of anymore right now....

Re: The book vs the movie

i find movies more interesting than books, only a few books which made me really curious abt the end created some excitement, were more interesting than movies.
