The Big 4 in Pakistan

Just wondering about the Big 4 within pakistan. which are those?

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

well,,, if you are talking about the accou nting firms then you would find, deveraux, ernst and young and blah blah.. ooperating under the names of sidat murshed hussain associates and so on ...but ofcourse their pay is not as good as the rest of the world.. but getting yopur work experience from there can mean that after 6 months or so you can get a placemnet anywhere in the world.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

yes i am talkinga bout the accounting firms. well i need more specific infor regarding these firms, like their loaction, name, repute, how much they pay, do they hire ppl on merit or reference/safarish is MUST factor....etc

i hope someone else can provide a better explaination....

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

I can pay you 10,000 rupees/month. :D

Wanna work for me?

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

My information and memory is kinda old so may not be most up to date. But here it goes.

PricewaterhouseCoopers = A.F. Ferguson & Co (AFF)
Ernst & Young = Ford, Rhodes, Robson, Morrow & Co (FRRM)
KPMG = Taseer, Hadi, Khalid & Co (THK)
Deloitte & Touche = Not sure but could be Sidaat Haider & Co

In terms of size, AFF is the largest and the most prestigious. They have offices in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Similarly all other Big 4 have offices in atleast these three cities (may be more). Karachi offices of all these firms are fairly similar and large. AFF in Lahore used to be much bigger than any other firm. Same with Islamabad.

Pay depends. If one is looking for articleship to qualify as a Chartered Accountant, then they are paid a stipend which is mandated by ICAP. Its fairly nominal. Not sure about the current rates, but it used to start at Rs 1100 per month and will go all the way to Rs 3300. New Assistant Manager (immediately after qualifying as CA and completed articles) should expect to get around Rs 40-60k. More qualified people will get a lot more.

Hiring: Usually on merit, atleast in AFF. But, obviously, some sifarishis do get in. With smaller firms, its usually totally based on jaan-pehchaan, since they tend to operate in secrecy and want to hire people they can trust.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

^^^

40-60K month or year ?

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

In Pak, salary is always given as per month. In addition, the usual perks include a company maintained car with fuel allowance. And once you are senior enough, the company also starts paying for your house rent, club dues, driver salary, cellphones, school fees for kids etc etc.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

Seriously?

With such perks, why are you in California?

(Let me guess, companies in Pakistan dont provide blone airheaded women for your convenience). :)

so 60k is about £600. Is that a lot (60k) a month? What can that buy?

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

Yes, 60,000 RS is A LOT.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

You wouldnt know what it can buy though would you. Living in AmeriKKKa and all that.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

In recent times, my understanding is that Pakistan has become much more expensive to live. A friend of mine who recently relocated back to Pakistan, gave me the following assessment:

"For a typical family of husband-wife, and two young kids (school going), to afford a modestly upscale lifestyle, and private schools, the only way you can live on Rs 100,000 per month, is if you live rent-free with your parents".

Not sure how accurate this is, but looking at real-estate prices and rental costs, I believe him.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

Yeah but i visited there n again 60K can buy quite a lot....

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

Yes. I agree. Though I will like to point out that a family living in Pakistan will likely need to buy more than three ultra fancy/wedding type outfits per month. You have to factor in high energy costs (bijli ka bill), school tuitions, salaries for servants, etc etc.

Comparing with US is a waste of time, as both the earning power and cost of living is much higher. In US, a fair number of people make $100k/yr or more. I don't think a lot of people in Pakistan make Rs 500,000 per month.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

I know but i was trying to give him an idea of what 60K can buy and that’s what i usually buy, clothing and jewelry

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

well 60 k is not a lot... I know many people in Pk who are working on a higher salary then that.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

spare the guy.. he's not lying.. ofcourse you won't get 60 k if you are working as a recpetionist or for some cheap company.

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

why not?

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

How many people in Pak make more then that?

0.0001%?

Re: The Big 4 in Pakistan

well faisal thaks alot for ur informative response. i guess now i have fairly a good idea about firms which are pretty good in repute and i should look forward to join.
i am studying towards an accounting designation and i am half way through so i was kinda thinking about starting my articleship.

i am not sure if im going to spend full 3 yrz finishing articleship. its just i wanna get some sort of experience b4 i head back to TO… so i guess one of those u mentioned i should look into.
