The Bhai Corner

The most horrible thing a desi girl can do to a guy is make him her bhai. It is essentially, I do not dig you in that way but I will demand of you all I usually demand from my boyfriend. Without the sex.

The question is why do desi women chose to employ this strategy. Why keep the guy hanging around even when they have no chance?

The attention?

Yes I am going for Alliteration.

Re: The Bhai Corner

"but I will demand of you all I usually demand from my boyfriend."

Not necessarily, in some cases the girl may not particularly enjoy the attention.....and might bestow the bhai label to get the message across that there's no hope...or that she's not interested.

Doesn't only happen in desi culture. Even non-desis will either say that I see you as a friend/brother/sister.

Re: The Bhai Corner

Nah I like my "girl likes the attention" bit. That makes more sense.

Re: The Bhai Corner

I've been in a situation where the guy refuses to understand a direct approach (directly saying that you're not interested)...and that doesn't deter the guy......(the persistence was annoying more than flattering) and led to the slapping of the bhai label. And in some cases, even that can take a while to be understood and accepted.

Re: The Bhai Corner

not really. even if a desi chick makes you a bhai, there is a possibility she will make you into a husband. with the nikkah and everything.

Re: The Bhai Corner

well usually its to tell someone that you're already taken. and also what Khumar said.

Re: The Bhai Corner

online when i called someoen bhai for the 1st time itna bara lecture suna tha cafe mai
abt girls and their insecurities and bla blah :hayaa:

Re: The Bhai Corner

:smack: it’s a beautiful relationship. You life1ers ruin everything!

Re: The Bhai Corner

I’ve never employed the “bhai” strategy - the “it’s not me, it’s you” line works quite well to help a guy get a clue

Otherwise, guy friends are just that - we each know where we stand, and those guys who deserve the title/relationship and ehter’aam of bhai, get called such.

Re: The Bhai Corner

Never used the "bhai" strategy either. I have a bhai and no way am I going to make another one..

Re: The Bhai Corner

It remind me of one thing :D

Rishtey Barhtey Barhtey Kahan Ja Nikle,
Pehle Dost thay, Phir Bhai Baney, Phir Saley Nikle..

PS: Saley as brother of wife and not a swear at this point =]

Re: The Bhai Corner

and if you girls have to make one, make chachazaad/khalazaad bhais at least they stand a chance....

Re: The Bhai Corner

surprisingly in pak they don't say this bhai much anymore

Re: The Bhai Corner

When I call someone bhai, its mostly out of respect and because they’re older than me… but like not too old to get called unkils :chilly: such as TLK bhai, Azkar bhai etc on GS… I feel like I’m being disrespectful if I don’t use the term bhai for them… Its just the way it is in our house, like I’ve never called aapi by her first name, she’s always been aapi to me…

But no, I don’t make a bhai behan ka rishta with every other guy on the street… I keep it formal with people in the professional/academic environment and with people I don’t really know that well…

Re: The Bhai Corner

likewise:)

Re: The Bhai Corner

Thats just wrong man.

Why the hell would you make someone a brother and than make him your hubby?

...o.O...... ewwwwww

I mean cant girls just make friends, understand us and adjust us according to their demands.

No its not a phrase to tell someone that you are already taken...it is a phrase to tell someone that you are not interested.

I'd go straight forward and tell the girl that I am not interested instead of making her my sister.

Do you girls ever see a guy making a sister?

No right?

Actually guy/girl ratio of creating siblings just out of the blue are 1/50 1 for the guys and 50 for the girls.

Last girl who pulled that stunt on me by calling me a bhai still regrets calling me a bhai because I dont talk to her anymore...
