Reminds me of Farewell To Arms, another novel by him, good enough to have made me fall in love with his writings.
Don't read too many fictional books by I like books by Ed McBain I have quite a few of his '87th Precinct' series. I also enjoyed Night Of The Fox by Jack Higgins and Windmills Of The Gods by Sidney Sheldon.
Assalam Alaikum
I am a hardcore reader and like to read a lot. I just wanted you people to share the best books you ever read. The books which inspired you or motivated you. Like some of my favourites:
1- Man in the iron mask by Alexandre Dumas (movies in nothing in front of it)
.
I like "Queen Margot" over this one :) The movie is also nothing compared to novel.
Shogun was great! Harry Potter books are so much fun! Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead were riveting. Lately, Three Cups of Tea has been on my hit parade.
But my favorite of all time is an out-of-print book that I got at a garage sale called "Malevil" by Robert Merle. About a nuclear holocaust and some few survivors in france who lived because they were touring a wine cellar at the time. I made the mistake of loaning it to a colleague and never got it back but its a book I'd read again and again and again.
I have too many favourite books to choose only one amongst them:
All books of Shafiq ur Rehmaan, especially Himaaqtein. I can never get tired of reading his books, think I have already read them hundreds of time.
Three Men In a Boat by Jerome K Jerome
Lord Emsworth At his Best and other Stories by P.G. Wodehouse
The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye
Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
City of Djinns, William Dalrymple
Marco Voldo, by Italo Calvino
Great Expectations, Charles Dickens
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller
And almost all plays by Brecht....I am afraid the list is so long that I might as well stop here.
