Today I learned that telemarketers actually DO have feelings. Prior to an incident that took place today (which I will tell you about in a moment), I thought they were just mindless robots that were being paid to nag you while you’re in the middle of dinner.
So today some guy calls from some mobile phone company and I assumed he’s speaking from India because of the major desi accent. “I am kaaling to inforem you off thee new suhvice plaan vee haav.” Usually, I like to mess around with these guys, just to make their day interesting because I’ll bet their job really sucks. I didn’t really feel like responding or listening, so I just hung up the phone and went about my day. About 20 seconds later, the phone rings again and I pick it up. I hear the voice of the same telemarketer that I had just hung up on, except this time he sounded really angry.
So he says, “DID YOO HANG PHONE ON ME?!”
And I’m like, “Uh, yea. I’m sorry about that, man. I didn’t think you would—”
He didn’t let me finish but said, “OKAY, NOW EET’S YOURR TURRN!” CLICK
That’s the last I heard from him. And I just couldn’t stop laughing after it happened. It was a pretty witty thing to do on his part.
Me: Hello The other person: Hi sir. How are you. We are calling about the blah blah blah Me: Oh. Ok. Listen, I’m kinda busy right now. Why don’t you give me your number where I can reach you later on. The other person: I’m sorry sir but we’re not allowed to do that. Me: Oh, so I guess you don’t want people calling you right?! The other person: Yes sir.
**Me: **WELL…NOW YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL hang up
Well from now on I’m gonna be nice to these guys. They’re not doing it because they enjoy it…they’re doing it to earn some bucks, we best not give em a harder time huh. =\
Man phati, u reminded me of this time when i was @ my friend’s crib. This indian girl called and started telling us how we cud save money by using their service to call india/pak etc etc. my friend usually says ‘not interested’ and hangs up but i was like “lemme get the phone”. i started talking to her and kept on going. B4 you know, we were discussing the food in india (i never went to india btw), the environment there, what are the good places to go to if I was to go to India for a visit etc etc . Everytime she would try to come back to the original topic (the phone plan they offered), i would ask her another question about India and bring her back to where we were . And this went on for like 15-20 minutes b4 i told her that i am not interested. She’s like “well sir, u can think about it and i can call again to ask you”…i looked around to see if my friend was there (he wasn’t in the room) and i’m like* “yea sure, after today, you can call anytime you want”* (i wasn’t gonna be there anyways hehe )

Yea I know someone that used to work as a telemarketer in Pakistan and he said that they have to be careful about what they say because the calls are being recorded but if you keep the customer happy and talking, then it’s okay to go off on tangents.
One time I held a conversation with a Dell dude in hindi.
