It’s been done to death now seriously!

For one thing when it’s 2AM in Islamabad, Pakistan it’s 4PM in Washington, USA.

When it’s 2AM in Washington it’s 12PM in Islamabad.

Right now as I write this it’s 2:58AM EST, 7:58AM GMT & 12:58PM PST.

We all know Americans are self proclaimed global policemen (or if it comes to Condi, policewomen!), and no nation, leader, politician or general can do anything about it until there are any drastic changes in the way the World today is setup.

So what’s the fuss and joke about the alleged call Pres Gen Mush one night received at Army House at 2AM!?

How real is the fable? And even if it is 100% accurate, name one world leader who wouldn’t attend a high level American phone call any time of day, in toilet, bedroom, kitchen or drawing room?
Even our Aitezaz would abandon a court in session, Imran would desert a cricket field, Qazi would cut short his prayers and so on.
Kim Jong, Ahmedinijed and Late Saddam won’t count as they’ve been on a totally diff path which is unrealistic, and heck, what do we know, while they might refuse attending it on the state telephones, they might be keeping in touch with their American friends via SMS through their pvt cellphones!

So while a so called global war on terror has been going on and Pakistan and its President Musharraf have been on the forefront, what great wonder if the US and Pak leaderships stayed in contact for some issue in Pakistan’s wee hours of the next day while it was still early evening of the previous day in Washington?

We’ll have to see how Prince Zardari and Ameer-ul-Momineen Sharif would take US calls. Or would things take such a turn that the two would indulge in the teenage thrill of late night prank calling slumber parties!?
They better use an ISI phone with Caller ID deception though, it’s the age of caller ID now, and Uncle Sam’s got strong tracing devices at the White House, which might soon be occupied with a man not so white after all.

Please do let us know when Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari, Qazi Hussein, Kim Jong, Shim Jong, Tom Dong, Sheeda Talli change their plans after getting a call at 2:00AM, we will rub it in their faces as well

If I had the time to waste, I'd look up when these sort of things happened in previous administrations, as I'm sure they did happen. However, how much of the recenly unleashed media do you hold responsible for churning out these stories? Before Musharraf, there was one PTV, and they certainly didn't show any stories of the sort. The paper newspapers had a little more freedom, but not so much.

Jaani, I'd look it up for you, but I have to cover 5 lectures worth of material, plus read a couple of chapters before the night is over, and I'd like to hit up Macy's sales if I can.

Its not a stretch of imagination ke these things have probably happened before. Anyone dead set against a personality can do all the drama baazi they want, but its not like sensible people will believe Zia never got his butt out of bed to take calls about Afghanistan.

Also, would you not want your transplant surgeon to get his butt out of bed in the middle of the night, or your lawyer to go running to the phone when you land your behind in jail in the middle of the night? So...how is answering a phone call in the middle of the night an unprofessional thing?

I can just imagine Nawaz. Phone calls going off and he scratches his butt and rolls over in bed.

^ Last time I heard an American president call a Pakistani PM he refused to obey him (1998 when Nawaz refused to stop from testing nukes as response to India's testing).

What about all the other calls he got from Pakistan? What about turning to his people after having the nerve of misusing donation money and aide money for developing weapons and living in a beautiful house and owning so many properties and his sugar mill investments in India whilst telling the people to eat ghans for they have to make a saccrifice for this bomb? His horses ate better than humans were eating in Pakistan that year. He also dared to ban a friggin song that criticized him for it.

If Musharraf did anything like this, there would be an UPROAR. How conveniently do we forget the crimes of the past.

On a serious note, what he means is that US is sort of global police and manipulates/control many govts/leaders around the world and possibly previous "democratic" leaders were called/thrashed on phone as well but may not have been covered by media (govt control etc). If it were anyone else other than Musharraf he/she would've attended that phone call as well.

Well the basic point was emphasizing how it's quite stale and boring the way every other moment someone or the other makes a huge deal out of the 2AM calls etc, as if it were a phenomenon exclusive to musharraf and was some huge unique failing on his part; esp owing to the fact that no one leader is/was/will ever be immune to timely or untimely summons by the powers that be. So partly as ehtasaab pointed this is for venting out the displeasure felt when all issues under the sun are related to some 2AM calls.

isn't it stale and boring to see Mashallah the greatest president ever, the greatest economic boom ever also in every discussion or did a raw nerve got touched here. Why weren't those issues raised.
