thanda khana

well… food that is of ‘thandee taaseer’, what are those foods? meat is ‘garam’, vegetables… are they ‘thandee’? is there any good classification of ‘garam’ and ‘thanday’ khanay? is this ‘garam’ and ‘thanda’ related to animal proteins?

Re: thanda khana

u hafta ask some hakeem dude.
fruits can be considered with a garam taseer also

Re: thanda khana

As far as biochemistry and organic chemistry are concerned there are no hot or cold foods except the one kept in regriferator or one boiling hot in a pot!

However in greek medicine, foods that inceases metabolisim are called "garam food" and the one which decreses metabolisim are called thandi taseer food!

Well
these are hot taseer food

Ginger
Strawberrry
Dates
Apple
Singhara

These are cold taseer

green corriander
coconut water

Re: thanda khana

OK I am familiar with this concept...

Was always told paw paw pineapples dates are garam
One thanda khana is those black seeds in sherbet ... takmalia or takmalangu we call them. Ghee neutralises garam effects

If i remember more I will let you know. Do you need this for medical purposes?

Re: thanda khana

Hey guys...if anyone ahs any further information on this topic I would really appreciate it...I keep being told that I should be avoiding this that and the other because it is considered GARAM....
Apparently, I have to avoid garam khana to help me to conceive....

Re: thanda khana

yes it is needed for 'medical' purposes, I was told by one doctor to avoid 'protein' foods as my skin was diagnosed for early-stage psoriasis, I am trying to find out if 'thanda-khana' helps, as regular 'allopathic' (correct term?) don't believe in "parhaiz" (avoidance). Thanks for your help :)

Re: thanda khana

I was looking for online hakeems here :D ... you know some people get educated from their parents about that.

Re: thanda khana

Mostar, aly-sam thanks for the infos, I would be interested in knowing more foods.

Re: thanda khana

googling and yahooing led me to this site: http://www.foodsnherbs.com/

gives information on what fruits/vegetables/meats are ‘cold/hot’.

Re: thanda khana

papaya is garam

badaam ki taseer thandee

mango garam
grapes garam
raisins thanday

wannabemum: you should avoid eating mushrooms. they work like contraception

Re: thanda khana

Mahru...thanks for that information...............I am in shock about mushrooms....we started eating lots of mushrooms recently as we got a new recipe...

Okay...no more mushrooms for me!!!

Re: thanda khana

I also believed that, but the site I found (link above) says that per Chinese therapy these two items are opposite to our beliefs.... yogurt=warm, mango=cold, perhaps our belief is based on its immediate (short-term) effects.... confusing.

Re: thanda khana

in chinese therapy foods are classified into Yin, Yang and neutral

Yin (cold ) foods are:

Almonds. Apple. Asparagus. Bamboo. Banana. Barley. Bean curd. Bean sprouts. Beer :cb:. Broccoli. Cabbage. Celery. Clams. Corn. Corn flour. Crab. Cucumber. Duck. Eels. Fish. Grapes. Honey. Lemons. Mushrooms. Mussels. Oranges. Oysters. Peppermint tea. Pineapple. Salt. Shrimps. Spinach. Strawberries. Soya beans. White sugar. Tomatoes. Water.

Yang (warm) foods

Beef. Black pepper. Brown sugar. Butter. Cheese. Chicken liver and fat. Chillies. Chocolate. Coffee. Eggs. Smoked fish. Garlic. Green peppers. Goose. Ham. Kidney beans. Lamb. Leeks. Onions. Peanut butter. Roasted peanuts. Potato. Rabbit. Turkey. Walnuts. Whisky. Wine.

Neutral:
Bread. Carrots. Cauliflower. Cherries. Lean chicken meat. Dates. Milk. Peaches. Peas. Pigeon. Plums. Raisins. Brown rice. Steamed white rice.

Mahru: Mushrooms work like contraception???thats shocking! i know they are intoxicants and give people nightmares but i didnt know this

Re: thanda khana

actually all nuts r garam no? Almonds when soaked overnight are thanda but eat them like that and its garam. i think yoghurt is garam where as if u dilute it its thanda.

why do garam foods cause ur skin to break out? anyone?

Re: thanda khana

‘garam foods’ take away the moisture because of being ‘garam’ leaving the skin drier, perhaps way of body telling you to eat ‘thanday khanay khao :bailan:’.

Re: thanda khana

Where did you get this list? From the site in above link, Shrimp is shown as ‘warm’.

Re: thanda khana

yeah its weird with some foods i think soaking them or drying them changes their composition. for e.g. dates are neutral essence foods but the dried dates “chuwaray” have a warm essence. most warm essence foods also make me break out such as nuts, chocolates, peanut butter.

captain1 i was doing a search on yin and yang foods and came across this site Feng Shui Yin and Yang | Feng Shui Institute International

but then i was just looking at this site http://chinesefood.about.com/library/weekly/aa101899.htm and it mentions some of the yin foods as yang

u might want to consult a chinese homeopath in this case. or use your own instincts…most veggies and fruits that are loaded with water (watermelons, cucumbers etc) are cold essence foods and most heavy foods like nuts are warm essence foods. im seriously not sure about shrimp but fish i have heard all my life is a cold essence food.

Re: thanda khana

Going back to basics;

Remember your alphabet: Alif “Anaar”

***Best thanda food for your skin, and they are in season too… ***

Re: thanda khana
