So, my home internet has a limit and we seem to run out every month. whoops I figured I should use my phone internet since its unlimited. I thought it would be as simple as turning it on from my phone settings and connecting from my laptop. But of course it can’t be that easy. I turned on tethering and portable hotspot. Found it under wireless connections - tried connecting but got an error. Then I went to Mr. Google and found out people use apps. I installed FoxFi and it worked like a charm.
Reason for this thread is so other people don’t go through the trouble and to find out what the rest of you use? Also, some explain to me why it didn’t work without the app? Is it blocked by my service provider?
So, anyone know why it didn't work directly from settings and an app is needed?
Tether = using ur smartphone as a mobile hotspot
While most smartphones come with that feature, most carriers restrict it because you use a lot of data while doing so. Some carriers charge for it, actually I think most do. And while you have unlimited data on your phone, they may still charge for tethering.
Call your carrier and ask them. If you have an unlimited data plan, they may not charge you but maybe something from their end needs activation.
Otherwise, stick to FoxFi!
Well I don't mind using FoxFi but was just wondering why it didn't work from settings. I just looked at my provider's website it says they will slow down the speed after a 10 GB is reached but nothing about a charge (assuming because its unlimited).
