Hamas and Islamic Jihad are a reaction to Israeli occupation. Despite that, Hamas was initially created by Israel, as admitted by Israel’s own leaders, as a divide and conquer strategy against the PLO, a secular, leftist, revolutionary group. And Hamas was founded in 1987.

You must remember that the Palestinian freedom movement initially was made up of secular, Marxist, groups which included many Palestinian Christians. They did plenty of bombings and hijackings as well, and killed a lot more Israelis than there Islamic counterparts could dream off.

The Islamist cause came later.

Exactly !! And none of that has to do with America.

As I mentioned earlier, Muslims have a problem in most countries (Muslim/non-Muslim) that they live in. Muslims have issues in Middle East, Thailand, Southern Philippines
a) The Bedouin tribes of the Middle East have been fighting each other for hundred, if not thousands of years and these prejudices still exist.
b) It was the British, the French and Italian governments that split up the Middle East into many of the current countries that exist without regards to the ethnic, religious or cultural diversities of the people. This has led to some of the current problems.
c) The problem with Thailand is the result of a British decision over 180 years ago and has nothing to do with America today.
d) The fighting in Southern Philippines is a fight over autonomy between the Muslims who make up most of the southern islands and the predominantly Catholics of the rest of the Philippines. This occurred well before the Americans occupied the Philippines as a colony after the Spanish-America War. Part of this battle is over ethnicity and part over freedom of religion.

So my point is that Islamic terrorism is not just what you see in Afghanistan and America alone cannot be held responsible for Islamic terrorism. There are various other causes, with the only common theme being that all of them involve Muslims.
