KARACHI (Reuters) - Unknown gunmen opened fire inside the office of a Christian welfare organisation in Pakistan’s southern city of Karachi on Wednesday, killing six people and wounding two, police said.

Police said the attack occurred in the city centre office of the Idare-e Amn-O-Insaf, or the Organisation for Peace and Justice.

“Most of the people killed were Christians,” a police officer told Reuters.

How sad :(

May all the innocent victims rest in peace, and may god give sabar to all the victims families.

A disgrace. War on terror seems to have increased the terror inside Pakistan, especially against the Christian community who are totally innocent and seem to have got caught in the crossfire.

what's sad is that deep down inside, many consider it a pious act of removing 'kufr' from the world.

If one needs to remove the 'kufr' preach them about Islam. This is not a way to remove kufr. Is this what our Holy Prophet (PBUH) taught us?
.

One thing I don't understand is if it's a 'pious act of removing kufr' then why don't these religious groups claim responsibility for it?

Namely religious.

Today you cannot open a paper on the Internet of any country and not run into the headlines:
Christians killed in Pakistan! and then right along with it is the 30 Hindus killed in Temple by Mulim gunmen; India points finger at Pakistan.

With recurring headlines like these, who needs enemies? Then we b**** about getting fingerprinted!

.. May Allah give us courage to stand against those who preach their hatred and venom everyday and we stand in front of them without saying anything..

The massacre of christians in Pakistan almost went unnoticed in India due to the tragedy of the Gujarat.

I wonder where the world is heading to. How much amount of hatred should one have to just tie people to chair and shoot them at point blank. Worse of all these things are being done in the name of religion!.

Let us expect sanity prevails among the people and those guilty are duly punished.

Victory

Careful when you use words.

It ain't a Genocide. The Govt. of Pakistan is not taking part in the killings of innocent Christians. There are some groups*[made up by themselves]* because of Pakistan siding with US.

… But government can take measures to stop them, can’t it? If it can’t than who wants a government which cannot defend it’s own people from so-called Islamic groups. Government can introduce strict laws, can put them in jail and can give them harsh punishments publicly so that no one else even think about killing people from another sact. But the truth is, our government is weak and afraid of this small minority. It’s such a pitty! :frusty:

Huh?

You mean Govt. ain’t doing anything for the safeguard of minorities.

Read the comments of Victory first. Understand it well. Then, read mine.

Got that?

Not so my friend. Not a single person thinks the way you say it. I live here and have heard thousands condemning this act. This is a conspiracy supported by our 'good neighbors'.

well govt can only TRY and take MEASURES that this does not happens again but NO GOVT can GURANTEE that this will not happen again. When bunch of ppl are ready to give their live for a cause (right or wrong) there is no govt in the world who can stop this … u have seen that in USA , ISRAEL , INDIA , PAKISTAN , CHECHNIA , UK (Irish Republican Army) and so on … and btw Pakistan’s Govt is doing its best to stop and control all this.

May all the innocent victims rest in peace, and may god give sabar to all the victims families.
Insha'Allah.

Disgusting act of cowardice. If the culprits believe in the "righteousness" of their deeds, then face the spotlight and make a full and open confession. Sick cowards.

Political Parties, NGOs Condemn Killings

KARACHI, Sept 25: Leaders of political parties and representatives of NGOs have condemned the ghastly attack on the office of the Idara Aman-o-Insaaf in which seven people were killed.

Condemning the tragic incident, Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto called for a high-powered inquiry into the incident. In a statement, she said it was the responsibility of the government to protect the life of all citizens of the state.

She recalled it was not the first attack against minority communities in Karachi and said earlier similar attacks took place in Punjab also.

She added that such attacks had become a routine matter under the Musharraf regime. She urged the government to pay more attention to internal security, saying instead of engaging police and other law-enforcement agencies in political matters, efforts should be made to develop their professional capabilities.

The chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Karachi, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, condemned the gory incident and said the increasing attacks on minorities and foreigners **“indicate the involvement of India and others powers inimical to Pakistan in such incidents.” **

A former governor and the provincial secretary of the PML (N), Mamnoon Husain, condemned the ghastly incident, saying** “we have repeatedly warned the government to take effective measures to maintain law and order.” **

“But the government, instead of taking steps to maintain peace, has been concentrating on persecuting the PML,” he claimed.

He claimed that it appeared efforts were being made to sabotage the general elections.

Condemning the ghastly attack, the Karachi Women’s Peace Committee said the Idara Aman-o-Insaaf had significantly contributed to efforts aimed at restoring peace in the city.

It urged the government to track down the killers and award them exemplary punishment. Adequate steps be taken to provide security to all those who provided humanitarian services, it said.

Kunwar Khalid Younus of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement also condemned the gory incident describing it as an act of terrorism. He called for immediate arrest of the killers, agencies add.

Archbishop Simen Perrira of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Karachi, expressed deep sorrow and grief at the killing of seven Christians in the city, and said that we are a peaceable people, but threats could not keep us from doing good work.

In a statement, he said the killers are our brothers, even if they do not know it. However, let us grieve for those who have committed this heinous crime and whose motives are unknown.

He sympathized with the families of the victims.

He urged the Christian community to remain calm and not allow hatred or the feeling of revenge to take root in their hearts, reminding them of the Christian virtues of Faith, Hope and Love.

Forgiveness is the lesson we have learned from the Lord, he said, adding: “Let us continue to show love and mercy to those who hate and target us, and act according to the spirit and pray for those who have lost their lives.”

The Bishop of Karachi Diocese, Church of Pakistan, Reverend Ijaz Inayat, condemning the brutal attack, termed it a crime against humanity.

“We are a peaceable people and want protection of life and property,” he said, adding that a handful of extremist elements were behind the killings to defame the country among the community of nations.

The President of the Catholic Association, Herbert Fernandes, condemned the gory incident. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and protection of life and property of the minorities.

The Young Men’s Christian Association also condemned the killing of innocent Christians in the office of the Idara Aman-o-Insaaf. A one-minute silence was observed for the departed souls. Prayers were also offered.

Maulana Asadullah Bhutto and other leaders of the MMA, human rights activist Zia Awan, PML-N leaders Mushahidullah Khan, Sardar Rahim and Irfanullah Marwat also spoke at the protest at the press club.

The chief of the Sunni Tehrik, Mohammed Abbas Qadri, condemned the ghastly incident. In a statement, he claimed it was a conspiracy aimed at tarnishing the image of Pakistan and of Muslims.

The Karachi Union of Journalist also condemned the ghastly attack and termed it an act of terrorism. It demanded a through investigation into the tragic incident.

The National Association of Business, Professional and Agricultural Women and the Joint Action Committee for Peace also condemned the ghastly act and called for awarding exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the crime against humanity.

DEMONSTRATION: Leaders of political and religious parties, human rights activists, representatives of NGOs and social welfare organizations held a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club to condemn the killing of seven workers of an NGO in the city.

They demanded of the government to arrest the killers. They warned that protest would continue till the killers were arrested.

Protesters carried banners inscribed with slogans “No to terrorism” and **“Apprehend killers and terrorists.” **

The speakers termed the incident an act of terrorism, saying it was an attempt at seeking postponement of the elections and urged the government to take effective steps to control the menace of terrorism in the country.

They demanded resignation of the IG Police Sindh and the minister of the interior for their failure to protect the life of the people.

Alas! How ignorant these peope are. Killings of innocent civilians and unarmed peacelovers won't lead them to heaven. Such dastardly , abhorable acts must be condemned at all levels by the Pakistani nation. I believe its for the silent majority of the Pakistani muslims to come out and speak against such abominable practices. ITs high time they shun their apathy.

I believe if I would have been working there, I would definitly been killed. I know couple of people in PAkistan who are working for the promotion of interfaith dialogue and social and religious harmony. There are already few people working towards this end and such acts undoubtly discourage other people to take the lead.

Christians in Pakistan are PAkistani citizens and are patriotic to this country. THese are the minorities and as Muslims we are obligated to preserve and protect them and not to drive them away form their homeland. sighs.*

I am glad they came out and spoke against it.
