And besides, no other country in the world is facing the problems like Pakistan right now.
I'll see how MI5 or likes can provide the same security as now, when the supposed superpowers sit in their country runing terrorist camps right under their noses. And when MI5's country has neighbors like india and Afghanistan, who are actively exporting terrorism to to MI5's country. And when MI5's country has president and politicians like we have. I'll see how MI5 provides the same security.
I must say, given very limited resources and a hugggeee country to defend, our security forces are doing a tremendous job.
hmmmm....what about securing the borders of each city to monitor the movements of individuals??
hmmm you mean like concentration camps? turning the whole cities into mega castles or garrisons is not possible. Lets say we do that, can you imagine the public backlash?

That's the only way i can think of to control the bombers really.
I think striking in SW will only take care of the problem in SW not anywhere else in Pakistan. We forget that people from these regions have lived in Pakistan for the past 60 or so years unchecked everywhere, they are part of population in every corner of Pakistan. SW is no foreign country whose borders are drawn and protected formally by our forces. It is not even densely populated. I don't even know who goes to SW for anything other than returning tribal people native to the region.
Pakistans problem with terrorism is hierarchichal and manyfold. People need economic opportunity and fair chances of growth as well. Corruption is one of our biggest hinderances to transparency from top down to bottom up. We cannot expect to guard each building either. There is no lower level justice either in Pakistan.
Pakistan is destined to fight this war and continue to make it more deteriorating the longer it prevails. Pakistan cannot solve this issue until the educational aptitude of every average person goes up and mentality changes. Killing on either side i.e. terrorist or government will only spur more and more vengeance and hostility. We can treat the symptoms forever but we need to cure the disease as well (which is actually a more defiant and persevering task).

But then terrorists wont at least have such free training facilities as Wazirstan where they can train like an army right now!
Right now its like a safe haven for any criminal who is involved in kidnappings, murder, robbery and what not.
This is the mother of all diseases. Once handled, others will become easier.

Agree that it is a hierarchical problem and can't be solved just by any military operation. For this we must adopt a multi-fold strategy, and adopting an offensive posture would be the 1st step. Economic growth and educating people definitely is the best solution for this situation, but it takes time to educate people. It can't be achieved over night by a constitutional amendment or announcing a new policy. We should have started doing that in mid 80's.
Now these criminals are targeting institutions which are responsible for keeping society intact, in terms of providing safety to citizens & defending against any aggression. They are NOT going to stop it for us when we are focusing our energies & resources towards educating people & economic growth.
Britain is helping to set up a national security authority in Pakistan to combat terrorism and promote political stability, the BBC has learned. It will be modelled on terrorism units run by the Home Office and MI5. Many analysts fear the battle with the Taliban in Pakistan could reach the scale of the conflict in Afghanistan. British intelligence has estimated that almost three-quarters of planned terrorist attacks in Britain recently have their origins in Pakistan.
According to the BBC’s Richard Watson, senior British and Pakistani counter-terrorism sources have said British training and funding will be made available to the new authority. Initially 200 experts will be employed in Pakistan, covering extremism and religious affairs. There will be a new counter-terrorism strategy within six months, and research projects will be launched. One of these will examine the alleged role in religious schools and radicalisation.
Critics of the plan suggest Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, could block progress, because it will remain in charge of terrorist investigations, although Pakistani sources insist the ISI is fully on board, our correspondent added. The Home Office declined to comment on funding, but said it strongly supported the move.
what is alarming for me is the failure to protect locations they should be able to protect better.
every one of these episodes has had the same pattern. the militants storm the building, take hold of it, then the security forces take it back. when you're holding a base dont you hold a significant advantage over the other party? this isnt like the hotel marriott where anyone can burst in. trying to take these bases should be like putting your hand in a hornets nest.
it isnt as if they're employing complicated planning and inside info. in the GHQ incident, all the terrorists had was army uniforms. how have they been functioning for so long? I imagine a lot of state secrets lie in the GHQ somewhere. how did they prevent indians from using the same strategy? skin colour?
not too many months ago this same police training facility was taken over and required an operation. why has it been hit successfully twice? it seems like they're sitting on their heels waiting for an attack and then counter attacking. while they are accomplishing the last admirably, their preparedness, on the face of it atleast, leaves much to be desired.
my city and my homeland is burning again :( they should tighten the intelligence more active again, tight security alone will not solve anything, unless we rout out the infrastructure and supply chain of these lunatics. and just clean it up like our armed forces done in Swat. thats the only way to deal with them. hit them and hit them really hard so they can just grow up again.
these are not just random attacks, i am afraid Pakistan has to face lot of these more in future days as these are part of grand objective of sole super power with its local supporters.
Pakistan will not budge inshallah, it will survive the odds.
These psychos have way too much support and even inside military support, which is how they are getting so close to their targets. There are people who still sympathize with their cause and are too complacent when it comes to punishing them. I don't know what the solution is. God help the innocent ppl being caught in the crossfire. Pakistanis need to unite **in every aspect, come together and stand up to these cowards. **Support our troops, support our military and support our police force.
Educate the masses. Provide better schools. Provide better social services, provide some hope for the people so that these kids/men and now women aren't easily swayed by these cowards, who I am sure throw money at them for their 'services'.
Hopefully its their last push for survival before being squashed by our brave soldiers.
You are right but the nation is brave not only the soldiers. This was the day of terrorists ( 3 attacks in Lahore, one each at Peshawar and Kohat ) but I did not found the people afraid.
as an Indian i wish Pakistan to come out of this mess and live peacefully.
i wish all this is like the turmoil before peace like it happened in Europe in the world wars.

Yes they train there but then its not very difficult to setup such camps else where in Pakistan or even in SW again. Are we going to post surveillance to see that the area remains cleared afterwards? And I am not against busting such areas, absolutely with extreme prejudice.
I do disagree that this is the mother of all diseases. Its just a place where the diseased people end up to hatch their conspiracies. Changing the mentality of people is the real and long struggle that will get us out of this mess. I think the losses will climb even more before they start thinning down in the years ahead and that is if the Pakistani public and institutions get their acts together. The Pakistani society provides an environment ripe for such mindsets.
Before asking for launching any operation, the stress should be on authorities providing security and safety to the official and civillian buildings, no?
Excuse me!!!
Security people are dying to give us protection... they need our all out support!!!
We need to attack these animals to weeed out their strongholds... and should not stay defensive only!!!
The war has to be fought on both fronts... securing our potential targets, as well as going after these animals who are targeting to destroy us economically and physically...
These taliban apologist have to stop justifying actions against these animals... we have to go all out after them before they destroy us... enough is enough... this is a war and we have to appreciate our security forces who are actually fighting this war...
All out action is needed aginst these animals wherever they are>>

There's something called strategy and without any strategy things will backfire like it has been happening so far, that's all I was saying.
I didn't say do nothing but if you wanna make things right, do it properly.
There's something called strategy and without any strategy things will backfire like it has been happening so far, that's all I was saying.
Yeah...
I am also talking about the strategy... and for starters we should stop justifying their actions and stop condemning the actions against these animals...
We are at war... and we need to support every action against these animals... be it in Waziristan, be it in Lal masjid, be it in Lahore, be it in Swat... people who are dying to protect us need our all out support..
We must stop this non sense of critisizing our security forces and must realize it's our war and come to a reality with the ground realities... instead of blaming India, Amrika, army, and whatever against these animals... they are just killer, criminals, and our enemies...
As a nation the only strategy we can follow is stay united and go all against these animals before they destroy us !!!!!
