LAHORE: At least 12 people were killed and 125 others injured after two suicide bombers ripped through the Youm-e-Ali procession in Lahore on Wednesday.

Ten women are also among the injured.

The first suicide blast took place near Karbala Game Shah. The second blast struck the procession near Bhati Chowk.

Confirming the suicide blasts, Lahore DCO Sajjad Bhutta said a police constable also embraced martyrdom in the attack.

According to reports, head of a teenage suicide bomber was found from the site of the blast.

Ten dead bodies were shifted to Meo Hospital, while two bodies were brought to Ganga Ram Hospital. SAMAA

KARACHI: **Unknown gunmen opened fire at Yaum-e-Ali procession near Empress Market in Karachi on Wednesday, leaving several people injured.

** According to reports, unknown assailants ambushed the procession from the top of a building located near Empress Market.

Meanwhile, heavy contingent of rangers and police rushed to the scene to control the situation.

The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital.

SAMAA correspondent Atif Hussain adds: Three to four persons carrying automated weapons attacked the procession from the top of a two-storey building. Hussain said that law enforcement agencies are trying to control the angry participants of the procession.

Six suspects have been arrested by the security agencies from the site of the attack.

Taking notice of the incident, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Shah ordered immediate arrest of the attackers.

Earlier, Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Mirza directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to pay special attention to the role of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Anti-Violent Crime Unit (AVCU) et cetera, as well as intelligence outfits of the law enforcement agencies while devising a security strategy on the occasion of `Youm-e-Ali’.

At least 10 walkthrough gates and scanners were installed along with a command and control room in Nishtar Park for foolproof security measures.

Dr. Mirza also directed for security cameras be installed along the routes of the procession which should be monitored. There should also be complete sweeps of procession routes by the Bomb Disposal Squad

Update: The Police station that was torched was Divisional Police HQ Thana Lower Mall. Situation getting out of control because of protesters. Police backing off. Samaa TV reporting that one of the suicide attackers which was earlier presumed to be a female was in fact a 16 yr. old kid

Lahore triple blasts leave 18 dead, 157 injured
LAHORE: Eighteen people were killed and at least 157 others injured, some of them critically, in three blasts that ripped through a procession on the occasion of Yaum-e-Ali in Lahore on Wednesday.

A banned organization Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Almi claimed responsibility of the deadly blasts.

MULTAN: Unknown people on Wednesday pelted stones at participants of the main Youm-e-Ali procession in Multan.

The incident took place at Chowk Bazaar area when Allama Zaheer Abbas was addressing the mourners.

Bricks and stones were thrown from top of the houses at Chowk Bazaar, injuring one person. SAMAA

Samaa TV reporting that Police hid inside the Thana immediately after the blasts. Firing still going on in Karachi.

Waisay with all due respect to Shia brothers, when you know that there are animals out there who have no regards for human life, i dont see any sense in going out and doing the march. Is it obligatory in shia faith to do that? I am sure not. But I can guarantee that its obligatory in shia faith to protect your life from unnecessary dangers.

wow..would you say the same about the blasts that occured at other public areas such as markets? would you advice them not to leave the safety of their homes at all? lame... its not the shias at fault here. its the sick wahabi mentality that has plaugued some of the musalmaans. apparently quite a few..
