Re: Terrorism?
He's of no use to us anymore. If anything, he's getting in the way.
Turn on tv, and all you hear is anti-musharraf talk on television. Theyr'e now painting him as a horrible person, whereas when the war in Afghanistan started, etc - they were showing him to be a saint.
Not that hard to figure out when an American ally is no longer needed.
Although, IMHO, there are enough extremist forces in Pakistan that if Musharraf was destabalized, they could easily take over, and the US plan would just backfire. Steadily, people are becoming more "religious" (even though I think its all phony religious behavior, and its just a political statement, like the return of the burqa) and more intolerant of "western culture" (which has nothing to do with Islam, and is, once again, just a political statement). So this anti-Americanism, and anti-westernism that's festering because of the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq...could very well just throw the American intelligence planning off guard.
I mean, we went into Iraq, and we had no clue that the Shia vs. Sunni fighting would end up being more of a headache to us than to the Iraqi forces fighting against the Americans. We figured, we'd just divide them, and instead, our soldiers are dying like flies. And our government has no idea how to fix the problem. I mean, Shias and Sunnis have been fighting since the death of the Prophet, essentially, and no one has been able to fully fix the problem. So how the hell can a superpower who knows very little about Islam and Islamic history, solve the problem?
Whatever, its all foreign politics. What they don't realize is that if Mush is lynched out by his own people, they're not going to be able to get another moderate leader in place that will be strong enough to keep his/her seat. It was one thing when you had BB and Nawaz Sharif - the environment in Pakistan was different then. Now, with all this religious revival, its a different story. I don't know how anyone will be able to keep their seat if they're not going to cooperate with the religious groups.
