Some of these stories can be “incredible” - but most of us do not think twice about it. Almost like look at big picture, and accept certain bumps along the way.
2) Excellent question. Arlei has done a great job answering. Here is my input.
Kshatriyas were supposed to fight with valor, righteously. (Our Faris is a prototypical Kshatriya and would have done well those days!) While the Pandavas’ cause was just, the method they adopted was not. Each of the Kaurava general - Bhishma, Drona, Karna, Duryodhana was killed by deceit. Drinking the blood of your enemy in the battlefield was certainly not noble (Bhima drinking Dushasana’s blood).
Duryodhana died in the battlefield. Thus he fulfilled his Dharma - that of a Kshatriya.
Like Arlei, I too do not consider Duryodhana the villain that our epic makes him out to be. He spoke his mind, was loud, and spoilt. But he did embrace Karna (who at that time was only known as son of a charioteer.) Bhima had ridiculed Karna as the son of a charioteer, not fit to compete with Arjuna. But Duryodhana embraced Karna as his friend/brother, and gave him the kingdom of Anga. Just like that.
